I'd love to hear a full explanation on how this exactly works.
Is Upper Deck not allowed to picture Eichel on any cards? Or can UD just not use his autograph?

I don't see how this can be a thing. I freely admit I don't get the legalities of it all, but once a player is in the NHLPA (having played a game) how can they not be required by the PA to sign cards for their licensed products?

Horrible News. No the cup rpa. Exclusives like this just ruin the hobby.

Well this makes things interesting.
I didn't think members of the PA were allowed to sign an exclusive agreement? Though maybe that's an exclusive trading card / image agreement - and the autograph is okay?

My understanding is picturing him will be fine, but he won't sign for them.
Including exclusives like the ones Gretzky & Orr have signed?
Unless it's written into their contract - I don't see how the PA could force them to do it. Strongly urge... sure.... "c'mon, everyone does this for their rookie year, and then a bit more afterwards" but actually force?

Yup. This does nothing good for the hobby. People aren't going to buy Leaf just for him and now he'll only be a non auto /1299 in SPA and probably not in the Cup at all and so on.

I don't like any exclusives but retired players don't have as huge of an impact. Not having the number #2 rookie available in a rookie class is devastating

I call this "The Buffalo Effect"
We finally trade for a good player (Ryan O'Reilly) and he drunk drives into a Tim Hortons.
We finish last (twice) and lose the lottery both times.
We get Eichel, the most highly sought after prospect besides McDavid in quite some time with a ton of hype, and we are going to get screwed on Rookies. Anyone who has been around here long enough in this hobby know the Sabres collectors will, and always have gone pretty hard for their players in the hobby. This is going to suck for us.

LOL it was all fine and dandy when UD signed McDavid as an exclusive but this is bad for the hobby. Good lord.
Its all business at the end of the day, like it or not.
