Toploaders or not?
I'm just starting to get into TTM, and I'm wondering, should I use a toploader or just send it in a penny sleeve? The toploader will make it more protected, but it requires more effort by the athlete to sign it and that might make them not want to. However, if I just send it in a penny sleeve, will it be safe or do I put it at a higher risk of damage?

I'd just send them without any of that. Several people have gotten them back where the person signed the sleeve or toploader instead of the card. Besides, penny sleeves don't really offer much protection.

Without, some of the old timers will sign the top loader instead of the card.
Also it might be difficult for the older players to take the card out of the top loader and put it back into it.
that might be the reason why some just sign it instead.
if you are getting a card signed most of the time it devalues the card, and becomes solely the worth of the autograph. So if you are sending a high value card you might want to reconsider.

You could place the card onto the letter within photo corners.

I send all my cards without toploaders and without penny sleeves, between two index cards that I have taped on one side. I have almost no problems using this method.

I cut out the front of a top loader and the card in. that leaves a nice area for the player to sign, while still gives good protection for the card.
