Getting back into collecting after 20 years off!

I am just now getting back into collecting after a 20 year break. I recently found all of my cards and memoribilia I had collected during my youth and it has led me to wanting to get back in the hobby. With so many types of cards these days I have decided to narrow my window to make it easier and I have found I enjoy focusing on collecting players from my favorite pro (Cincinati Bengals) and college team ( Auburn football) focusing on the autograph and autograph jersey cards. I have just been buying them individually as of now. I am also thinking of trying to take a stab at the collection I started when I was a kid of trying to get every Emmitt Smith card.....that may be a lifetime collection the more I am learning!

I am also interested in trying to collect some of the younger nfl players autograph cards that I hope might break out in the coming years as investment cards as well. I am just looking for some advice on those type of cards and is it best to try for rookie cards as opposed to year 2-3, any brands in particular, and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on who they are targeting this off season in hopes for a break out 2016 (like this years cam newton)? Any advice or anything you all can add would be a great help. Thanks
