Leafs shed, what, $4M in cap space with this deal? They're going to be going hard for Stammer for sure.

They might be, but they shed ZERO dollars in Cap Space for this year & Next:

Michalek's hit is 4.0, Cowen is 3.1.... so those two take up Dion's space. Greening is another 2.65.

Having said that, they're much easier players to dump (if that's what you want to do)

As a Sens fan, when I saw the title, I thought it was a joke, like haha the Leafs traded Phaneuf to the Sens. Now that I realize that it is not a joke, I am not sure what to think.

Michalek has 1 yr left on his contract though and phaneuf has 5 yrs left. This puts the leafs in a better position moving forward. Cowen is a 6'5" young defence man. Who knows and a prospect and draft pick. They needed to get out of the contract and I think they got a better return than anyone thought they could have.
