    What's a Box Break ?

I was browsing Ebay today and saw a bunch of listings for "Box Breaks" for the 2015-16 Upper Deck Artifact's boxes.

For example, the listing will say something like "2015-16 Upper Deck Artifacts <team> Hockey 1Box Break"

These "breaks" say that you're not bidding on the box or individual cards, but rather "hits" for the <team> listed in the add.

Does anyone know how this works? It looks like these sellers are taking 30 bidders, but if everyone is bidding on say the Canucks, then what happens to other cards like the Flames or Oilers, or?

Just wondering if these are good ways to complete your set, or is it best to buy one-off's ?

There is usually one auction for each team , so the high bidder for each team gets a "spot" in the break and gets the hits for that team . With that being said make sure you got with a reputable breaker , because there are scammers out there

You'll get only the hits from the team(s) you buy. Hits include rookies, parallels, patches, jerseys, sticks, etc. pretty much anything thats not a base card. personally, your money is better spent buying what you want/need. Box breaks are great to watch and participate in but it's pretty easy to spend a lot of money and end up with not much to show for it. There are a lot of reputable breakers out there but there are also a fair amount of scammers but thats a whole other topic of discussion.

I'd recommend going on youtube and looking up ksehd or breakawaysc they're easy enough to find and will give you an idea of what to expect. If you do intend on getting in some breaks do a bit of research and/or ask around for where to spend your money. Hope that helps.

Yeah.... the idea would be the seller runs auctions (or possibly just straight up sales at set prices). If you buy the Canucks, you get all of the Canucks cards. Someone else buys the Oilers.

Of course, you might end up getting nothing.

Its the same thing as a group break. Whatever team you buy, you get the hits from that team. So you could end up with a 1/1, or you could get absolutely nothing. It's a gamble.

But as mentioned above, make sure you do this with someone reputable. There are a lot of bad apples around, so make sure you aren't putting yourself at risk.

And always check what they are actually "selling". You see "box" breaks for stuff like The Cup, Black Diamond, etc where there is only one pack of 4 or 5 cards in a box. So at least 25 people are going to pay for nothing! Sticking with "Case" breaks obviously gives you more chance to win something, but of course, it will be more expensive. And for real high end stuff, even a case doesn't guarantee you something as there may only be 30 or 40 cards in a case. Pretty tough to fork out $50 (or more) and get absolutely nothing for it. Your odds are better to take that $50 to Vegas and play some blackjack...

You are better to go with a case break from an honest breaker who will post his break on youtube. You may pay a bit more but you will get all the hits for your team you buy from the whole case. And will watch the break live.

There good for a gamble, but for competing sets, your better off breaking some lower-end boxes yourself and hit some base or inserts. For higher-end sets or auto/memorabilia sets, you're better off buying the singles you need online or through trades, etc.
