Awful news. RIP Gordie. One of the greatest players to ever lace the skates.
Unfortunately with the increased number of teams and players over the years, things like this will only become more common.

It's a sad week for sports but even a sadder week for Sportsmanship.

I posted this on FB earlier today on one of the photos The official Toronto Maple Leafs page shared with Gordie and Johnny Bower.
I got to meet these two gentlemen a week apart at private signings held at Wayne's Sportscards. I had them sign the same picture with Gordie flying through the air looking where he is going to land and Johnny stabbing at the puck with his eye's closed. When Gordie signed it, he talked about how he remembered that goal and that he and Johnny still argue about whether or not it was a goal or if he missed. When I met Johnny the following week and had him sign it, he saw Gordie's auto and immediately started talking about the save, and how he got a piece of it to send it wide, and how Gordie still says he scored and was mistaken. Johnny finished up the auto with No Goal across the net.
Two class acts, two great story tellers and two great hockey players who loved to poke at each other.
To Gordie, may you rest in peace until you lace the skates up in the sky. Then feed whoever you're gonna play a bunch of elbows.

@mikecole141 That is an awesome story and a great personalized inscription. My LCS guys have a similar story about a Jean Beliveau/Johnny Bower dual signed photo. Unsurprisingly, the stories of the shooter and the goalie remain the same. Haha
