Most Won't Rembmer me, but some might.... Its a small book, but an important one!
Hey everybody, let me re-introduce myself to you. My name is Don Burr and I am affectionately known in the Cowboys World as FanZ. All of my enterprises somehow use the word FanZ, and so CowboysFanZ, DallasCowboysFanZ, FanZ Entertainment, etc.. I own and operate a Dallas Cowboys FanZ Club which started as a fluke but has grown to be the largest independent club in the country at just under 31,000 people.
SO what brings me here, or back here I should say as I was on the site about 6 years ago when i lived in CA. I went through some person tragedy including the loss of my wife, so I put the club in the hands of some of the people who worked for me and went into a funk for a couple of years. I relocated to Texas 4 years ago to rebuild my life and start over fresh.
Its been one of the best things I could have done. I got a new out look on life, new surroundings and a rejuvenated spirit. So needless to say, I've taken control of the club again, and am working to build it back to the glory it once had. I'm in year two of my club makeover, and its going well. One thing I do is I create Dallas Cowboys Football Card Packs, and I insert autographs into about 1 in 10 packs. We give these out to kids and families that attend our game watch parties.
Nothing is more satisfying that seeing a kids face light up when they get an autograph card of a Cowboys player. It doesn't matter what player, just as long as its their favorite team. As you can guess I use a bunch of commons to create about 2000 packs over the course of the season. SO if you have any old unimportant Cowboys Commons, YEAR and PLAYER are not important... and you want to sell them dirt cheap just to clear some space, I'm the guy to talk to.
We do a lot of Charity Event work too, and the card packs are loved there as well. Who would have thought something so trivial could bring so much joy to a child that really doesn't have much. I am actually in the process of building a 510(c)3 charity as well. It's called the Ultimate Sacrifice Association Or USA... we are geared to helping first responders (Fire, Police and Military) who have been disabled or severally injured on the job. Believe it or not, after a month or so, those guys are left to fend for themselves with little or no help without an uphill fight.
My goal is to help those who run to protect in the face of danger, while others run away from it... they are thankless jobs, and most of the time people look down on them as privileged. I'm here to tell you, there are little to NO perks to being a first responder. Its dangerous, thankless, and puts a target on your back every time you try to do what is right. Imagine being a police officer on scene trying to help a stranded vehicle when someone not paying attention hits you doing 70 MPH... well, I have one officer we help who had that exact thing happen to him.
Get this, his departments insurance is fighting his workman's comp and denying his benefits. Yes, its true.. hit on the job, in the line of duty, and left to fend for himself with one leg mangled and a brain injury which makes it difficult to communicate. It isn't the police department, but the insurance carrier who wants the premiums and not the expenses. Its an F'd up world we live in, and our political policy in this country is to treat other countries in need before we take care of those in this country who are in dire situations. Million and billions sent to foreign countries in aid, but we have a homeless population that grows by leaps and bounds everyday here in the US. I just want to try and help fix a little of that unbalance if at all possible.
PTSD is at an all time high, did you know 8000 military men and women commit suicide each year because they feel they have nothing, with nowhere, and no-one to turn to. That's over 22 people who served this country, most who did tours in Iraq or Afghanistan, and come home to no job, no assistance and nobody who seems to care that swallow a bullet, jump off a bridge, or find other ways to end their pain EACH AND EVER DAY. Those with a disability or wounded in action can't even go to a doctor because they must use VA hospitals and doctors who have so much work they are backed up months and months for appointments. Injured protecting our freedom, and they don't have the freedom to see any doctor when in pain.
I'm on a soap box I know.. I apologize, I'm just passionate about this, and knowledge is the first step for each of us to make a difference. Do me a favor.. shake the hand of a cop, fire fighter or military person and just say thanks... its a simple thing, like a handshake, a free pack of football cards, or just letting them know you are there for them .. its a such small gesture, but one that can truly change the world.
So I'm here to collect Cowboys bulk commons, auto's Good, Bad, or No Name.. its no difference, it still brings a smile to a child whom finds little to smile about. So if you have some to donate, trade, or sell cheap... let me know. . . But regardless, I'm serious... when you see a first responder.. just say thanks!
Regards,
Don
