Dennis Rodman has been named as a 'person of interest' in an Orange County, California, hit-and-run investigation.
Police were called to an early morning crash on Wednesday on the I-5 freeway in Santa Ana according to a Friday report from TMZ.
On arrival police found a damaged BMW but no other car and, the site reports, the controversial 55-year-old former NBA basketball player was not at the scene either.
A witness at the scene reportedly told California Highway Patrol (CHP) that there was another car involved and Rodman was in that vehicle.
It is not clear whether the witness saw the former Chicago Bulls player in the driver's seat or just in the car.
Authorities are moving forward with the investigation and TMZ reports that CHP has been in contact with representatives for the colourful and iconic player.
No arrests have been made nor charges filed against Rodman, with authorities merely describing him as a person of interest.
A representative for Rodman told TMZ he plans to co-operate but could not confirm if he was in the car or driving.
The representative told the site: 'We were just notified by the OC police last night and were waiting to talk to Dennis on who may have been in or driving his vehicle at the time of this incident.
'Dennis will certainly cooperate with authorities and allow them to inspect his vehicle for damages as well if these accusations are accurate.'
