    2016 Rio Olympics

Post Olympic basketball thoughts and analysis here, US or otherwise.

I was amazed that Australia overtook France so easily. Seems like no one on France showed up except Tony Parker. Bogut and company really outmuscled them.

USA dominated China, as expected. I tuned out somewhere in the second quarter. Too easy.

Looking forward to more action this evening.

Aussies increasing their lead against the Serbs to finish. Delly has looked great.

Olympic b-ball is quite different from NBA style. Obviously there is the rim rule almost everyone who watches is aware of, but even the kind of play is different - less analytics and outside bombing; more traditional, physical type play.

Olympic b-ball is quite different from NBA style.

That's because the refs play a big role in determining what a team can and can't do based on who the refs are giving special treatment to on the court. In the Olympics everything is as close to equal as can be.

USA v Australia should be good. USA to end up running over the top but I want to continue to see that fight from the Aussies!

Yeah I've been really impressed with the Aussies. Gotta love Delly and Bogut; they know championship caliber strategies and tactics.

Glad the US got their act together against Venezuela after that embarrassing first quarter.

Aussies giving Team USA tough time early. Klay replaced by Paul George in starting lineup. Melo playing well for Team USA.

This is quite the contest. Melo helping to keep USA just a couple of steps ahead.

As an aside, I never noticed this level of detail before, but after observing more closely, Aron Baynes moves and shoots remarkably similar to Kevin Love. They have the same slow backpedaling/lateral quickness (as opposed to, say, Andrew Bogut, who has much better footwork), same forward running motion, same compact/quick wrist flick in shooting and passing, and same low stance at the free throw line. Baynes has just never developed anywhere near Love's polished offensive skill set, but they have the same motor skill genotype.

Huge shot by Irving and big rebound by George. Irving and Melo have all the 4th quarter pts for Team USA.

Aussies with ball, 36 seconds left, down five ...
