Thanks for adding me to the forum
Hi guys my name is matt and I'm from Kentucky and I'm a new collector, I started about 5 months ago and I was wondering If someone can help me with getting a better understanding of collecting cards. I was wondering how can you tell the value and how to maintain them and store them. Please help me. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Matt- Welcome to SCF! There are different price guides that can give you an idea o value as well as tracking recent sales on places like E-Bay. As far as storage, penny sleeves and hard holders are good for most cards, but one touch holders are good for higher end cards.
Always Looking for:
A) Graded Vintage (Pre-1980) (BGS, BVG, PSA, SGC) in all sports
B) Graded True RC's (No inserts or parallels) (BGS, PSA, SGC) in all sports
C) Certified Auto and GU cards of players from the 70's and further back in all sports

Welcome to SCF, I use Super Shoebox, they are at most Card shops and usually under $5 each, they hold a lot of hard plastic cards, there are 3 rows in the box!
Football: Emmitt Smith and CeeDee Lamb!
Baseball: Aaron Judge/Adley Rutschman/Derek Jeter/Anthony Volpe!
Only collect Football/Baseball cards, but I have lots of Basketball/Hockey cards and set to trade for BB and FB!

For value you can somewhat ballpark it using price guides, and you can also use sale value with the help of eBay (my preferred method).
As for maintaining value (most likely, the condition of the card), you can get your high-end stuff slabbed and for the others, keep them out of the sunlight and store big lots in binders with the 9-pocket display pages. You can also keep cards in a penny sleeve/toploader or one-touch magnet holders as well.
