A Season of Mystery - Leg 5 - My Team Is Better Than Your Team Challenge



Time to have a little bit of competitive fun - we are introducing a brand-new contest leg in our Season of Mystery Contest, sponsored by Frameworth Sports!

There will be two parts to this contest--not only are you testing your powers of prognostication for your favourite NHL team for the 2016-17 season, but you will also be competing with one another in the contest for extra points!

How It Works

Part one of this contest leg will be to assess your favourite NHL team and how they will fare in a number of statistical categories, including overall record, points, playoff ranking, and more! For each correct guess you can earn points in this challenge to bolster your place in the rankings.

Part two will be based on how well your team does against the other contestants' favourite teams in head-to-head NHL regular season games. If your team beats their team, bragging rights will be earned along with points!

Your first step in this challenge is to identify your favourite team. Obviously I'm going to be looking at the Montreal Canadiens to predict their 2016-17 final standings.

Next, you will predict your team's final totals for each of the following categories...

9. Overall Rank**

For categories 1-4, an exactly correct guess will be awarded 5 points. Missing by 1 will see 4 points award, off by 2 you get 3 points, miss by 3 you get 2 points, and being within 4 you get 1 point.
For categories 5-6, an exactly correct guess will be awarded 5 points. Being within 5 goals will get 3 points, being within 10 goals will get 1 point.
For category 7, an exactly correct guess will be awarded 8 points. For each sub-category you are within 1 (over-or-under) you will get 1 point each.
For categories 8-9, an exactly correct guess will be awarded 3 points. If you are within one position (over-or-under) you will get 1 point.

* If you think your team finishes 4th in their division and gets a Wild Card spot, your answer will be 4th / Wild Card; if your team will miss the playoffs, you would answer 6th / Miss Playoffs; if your team will finish 1st you would only need to answer 1st Division

For categories 1-4, picking the correct player will result in 2 points being awarded. Additionally, for correctly guessing the exact stat total, you will receive an additional 5 points. If you are within 3 (over-or-under) you will receive 3 points. If you are within 5, you will receive 1 point.
For categories 5-6, picking the correct player will result in 2 points being awarded. Additionally, for correctly guessing the exact stat total, you will receive an additional 5 points. If you are within .05 GAA/.005 SV% you will receive 4 points. If you are within .10 GAA / .010 SV% you will receive 3 points. If you are within .15 GAA / .015 SV% you will receive 2 points. If you are within .20 GAA / .020 SV% you will receive one additional point.
NOTE: For the goalies, a goalie must have a minimum of 12 games played.

For every game during the contest period (November 16th to the end of the regular season) that your favourite team plays against another contestant's favourite team, there will be 1 point on the line. The team that wins, regardless of it being regulation or OT/SO, will get the point.

A Season of Mystery Points

Everybody who participates in this contest leg will receive points in the Season Long Contest. This will be determined by how much participation there is overall--the more people, the more points at stake for the winner so get your friends involved!

How To Enter

To get yourself started, identify your favourite team, copy & paste the categories above into your post, and fill in the blanks with your predictions. Do NOT edit your post. If a post is edited, that entry will be disqualified automatically. If you want to make a change because of an error, please notify RGM81 via PM to make that request. Obviously it would have to be within an hour of making your post. PM'ing me the day before the season ends will not get your selections changed. LOL

Deadline to enter is November 15th.

As a special participation bonus every entrant this year will receive 150 Card Cash!

Additional Rules

All SCF Members in good standing, including the SCF Staff, are eligible to participate in this contest.

Trade requirement: you must initiate & complete TWO [2] transactions on SCF between November 16th and the end of the NHL regular season. Please make a separate "my trades" post that is unique from your contest submission post. Any member who does not complete their trade requirement will not receive any Season of Mystery points. Note that this must be a unique trade and cannot be used for other Contest legs.

Members must remain in good standing throughout the contest period. Any negative feedback or major infractions will result in a disqualification from the contest.
