No alternate jerseys next season as adidas takes over nhl uniforms
Bad news for fans of the aesthetic side of hockey as the league is reportedly set to nix alternate jerseys for 2017-18 as part of the introduction of the Adidas line of jerseys.
Fans who enjoy jersey design and the unique looks teams can sport on a nightly basis won’t be thrilled to learn that the NHL will reportedly be doing away with alternate jerseys for next season.

This is a downer. Even worse is the Edmonton Oilers are dropping their classic blue home jersey in favor of the orange one next season.

I like the orange as a 3rd jersey.... but totally agree with this. the blues are much nicer.

Interesting. The Oilers started with Orange for their first two seasons before adopting the blue, and it's cool to see as a retro kind of thing, but I'm not sure why they would switch to Orange for 41 home games a year. I suppose it does delineate "The McDavid Years" starting point nicely but still....

this is the same thing that happened when Reebok had their first season in 07.08 I think. no real lose for canucks fans as the 3rd jersey this season is the rink and hockey stick which im not that big a fan of tbh.

I would have loved to see the Oilers keep the blue jerseys. Those are a classic!
Shame on no alternates next season, but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. Still looking forward to see what Adidas can do in the coming years.Jhonas Enroth Card Collector & Host of the Hidden Content

It seems like a cop-out to me. Adidas owns Reebok, unless something has changed in the three years since I left buying licensed apparel.

Yeah, it seems weird why there would be no alternates since they've already taken control of NHL jerseys for a while now anyway with Reebok. Now with parent company Adidas taking over, there's no reason why alternates shouldn't have been made for next season. Maybe after the 17-18 "transition" season in over, they'll bring back those alternates right away. That's what I'd strongly suspect will happen anyway.

I can tell you that from interaction with that company's employees and reps, they are garbage. They don't understand business and give zero effs about what retailers and customers think and want.
I have my my gripes about Nike, but they are so much better.

They will bring back alternate jerseys on the pure basis of selling those jerseys brings in more money. For the people who need to have every jersey, they will buy the alternate. My guess is, only 2 jerseys a team as the redesign the alternate jerseys with each team and introduce them later to continue jersey sales after the initial rush to get the new Adidas one.
