I need to be measured in order to be known. Once I am gone, I cannot be brought back. After a lot of me has been measured, I am missed. I can fly! What am I?

Hmm, not sure of that one off hand, but heres one for you to think about.

Man lives on the 38th floor of an apartment building. Everyday when he goes to work he goes to the elevator to ride it down to the 13th floor. From there he walks down the stairs and on his way to work. When he arrives home he takes that same elevator and rides it all the way up to the 38 floor and to his apartment. There is nothing wrong with him medically and everything in the building works fine, so why does he walk the last 13 flights of stairs before he goes to work.
