Best Way to Remove "Protective Film" from mid-90's Cards?

I picked up a couple of 1996-97 Select Certified Mirror Gold parallels (Jeff O'Neill and Keith Primeau, for those curious), and wanted to take off the "protective film" from the cards. I've tried peeling from the corner, but I don't see the separation between card and film. Is there a good way to do this without hurting the card?

try it from the side. Use the flat part of your finger and not your finger nail. Let me know how it goes.

OK, I tried this (both using the flat part of my finger on the edge and on the surface of the film, but I can't get the film to budge. It's getting ornery after being in place for 12 years!

I have no clue what cards you're talking about....but it really sounds like you're having a hard time.If its that hard to get off...I honestly would leave it alone.You most likely will or probably already damage the card.I always thought protective plastics on cards made the value higher????

I know exactly what cards you are talking about too, I have about 5 of them at home and the edge of the finger (not finger nail) worked best for me. DO NOT use your finger nail because this would damage the card.

Try putting the card on a flat surface, hold it in place with one hand and with the other hand, push down and up on the card, this may slide the plastic out of place.

Yeah, I figure removing the plastic would hurt the value in the short run, but I bought these for the the PC and they will look a lot better without the film. I only paid about $4 a piece delivered, so I wouldn't be losing that much value on it.

As a postscript, my wife got off the protective film using her fingernail (ouch!) on a corner (yipes!). So these bad boys probably won't be graded any time soon (although I haven't looked at them through a loupe), but here they are in their unfilmed glory!



I must say, they look much nicer without the film.
