View my store BetaBob Gibson memorabilia brings high prices.
StoryIt's been a busy weekend in sports and sports collecting. Friday was the trade deadline for Major League Baseball, and the National Sports Collector's Convention is going on in Cleveland. I wrote on July 17 about the upcoming auction of some of Bob Gibson's finest memorabilia. The live auction for those items ended Friday night at the National Convention.
If my calculations are correct, the 12 Bob Gibson items sold by Legendary Auctions went for a total price of $456,900. The highest price realized for any of the items was $120,000 for Gibson's 1968 MVP award. (The award is pictured with this article). 1968 was the year he finished with an ERA of 1.12. The Bob Gibson Cy Young award from that same 1968 season sold for $84,000.

View my store BetaWow, those are some pretty incredible items that sold. Wonder if Gibson has fallen on hard times and needed the money badly? It's too bad those items couldn't stay with his family or with the Cardinals organization.
