My Best Day Ever As A Sports Memo Collector

Well I will start this wonderful story from the very beginning. Iíll start by saying that I live in a small town in North Carolina called Sanford. Every since I was old enough to throw a ball I have loved two certain things about sports and that is baseball and the Duke Blue Devils. Well as you all know there are no Major League baseball teams in North Carolina so the next best thing is the Durham Bulls which I enjoy going to very much since I am huge Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves Fan. For those of you who arenít that familiar with the Durham Bulls they began as the Triple-A affiliates of the Atlanta Braves and since the Tampa Bay Rays came into existents in 1998 they became the Triple-A affiliates of the Rays. Well I usually go to a game or two a year just to try to get some autos of the up and coming players. Well to my excitement I was on the internet trying to get a ticket to the season opener and I seen that they had a exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Rays. They were offering a special deal buy two tickets to this exhibition game and they would give you two tickets to another game. Well I got the tickets and figure that I would just give the other tickets to the second game away because it was during the week and after working a ten hour day I figured that I would be to tired to go to the second game since its about an hour and a half drive away from were I live to Durham. Well I went to the game and had a great time, I got about five Rays autos ( no Longoria who is my favorite player but did get some great close up pictures of him) and I really had a great time. Well I thought that week could not have gotten any better after seeing my favorite team play for the first time in 6 years since I went to Tampa Bay and seen an three game series of Interleagues game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Atlanta Braves. Well the one thing that I love more than baseball is the Duke Blue Devils. I bleed blue and even have a tattoo on my left leg of Duke D Symbol. Well three days after getting to see a great baseball game my Duke Blue Devils went on to win there fourth National Championship. I thought that this was turning out to be a great week for me as far the sports world goes. Well the tickets to second game that I had mentioned earlier that I had gotten free for buying the other tickets to the Rays Exhibition game was the next week on a Wednesday and I did all I could to try to give those tickets away. Well I tried and tried but couldnít find anyone to give the tickets to. Well I decide to talk to my boss and explain to him the situation that I had tickets to a baseball game and hate to see them go to waste. He said that I could take off two hours early so that I could go to the game. Well on my way home from work to get my normal things that I take to a baseball game my glove, a baseball, a pen, a few baseball cards, and my Durham Bulls ball cap. Well I decide on my way home to turn on the radio to ESPN radio just to see who the starting pitchers for the nights game was going to be and I got the best news I every gotten as far as it goes sports wise. Come to find out the 2010 NCAA Basketball National Champs were going to be there to for a special ceremony and Jon Scheyer, Brain Zoubek, and Lance Thomas ( the three seniors) were going to be there to throw out ceremonial first pitches. So I decide to grab a few team photos of the Blue Devils I had and grab my Duke hat instead of the Durham Bulls hat. Well my heart was beating what seem to be a thousand times a minute the whole hour and half it took me for me to get to Durham. Well I thought my chances of getting any autos were going to be slim next to none but I thought that I would at least have a chance to get some photos of my favorite players. ( Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler, and Nolan Smith) Well I got to the game about an hour and half early and pack all my pictures, pens, and balls in a sports bag. Well I went in and walk over to the Durham Bulls dugout to try and get the only auto of one of the Rays player that I didnít have which was the recently acquired former all-star Hank Blalock. Well I got his auto about ten minutes of standing there and I was the only person standing by the dugout and to my amazement the next three people to come out of the Durham Bulls dugout was the three Duke Seniors Scheyer, Zoubek, and Thomas. They came right over to me and I was able get three team photos autographed and a duke hat autographed by all three of them and was even able to get my picture taken on my digital camera with Scheyer. I also got a lot of other great close up photos of all three of them. Well I was so excited that I could barely sit still during the ball game. Well about the 6th inning I decided to go out to the car and smoke a cigarette. Well as I was getting out of the car I heard over the loud speaker they were having the ceremony to congratulate the devils on there championship and this sort of disappointed me that I missed out on the opportunity to see this once in a life time event. Well my moral got lifted back up really quick as I was on my way walking back to the main gate to enter the stadium and to my amazement here came the whole team walking out to get back on the team bus. I was then able to get Nolan Smithís and Kyle Singlerís autographs on one of the team photos that I had already had signed by the other three seniors before the game started. So I ended up with one photo signed by the starting 5 Blue Devils of the 2010 NCAA National Champions, two photos signed by the there seniors, and a Duke hat signed by the three seniors. This was one of the greatest nights in my life and to think I almost missed out on the opportunity to have this great experience. I am so thankful that I couldnít find anyone to take the 2 free tickets to that game and that I just happen to turn on the radio to hear the news of the Blue Devils being at the ballgame that night. Well that just goes to show that I was meant to go to that ballgame and I was meant to see my favorite team on that special night. I guess thatís what they mean by being at the right spot at the right time.
