Just curious to see what draft year you guys/girls thinks was the best...I mean you have Kobe, AI, MJ, Amare, KG, David Robinson,Duncan, Nash, J.Oneal, Shaq, LeBron, Wade, Melo TMac, Yao...What draft had the best crop???

IMO I think the 1984-85 and 1996-97 draft were the best...84-85 you had Jordan and Olajuwon....96-97 you got Kobe, AI, Nash, Marbury, J.Oneal, Allen, Camby....

What are ya'lls opinions???

NOT IN ORDER. I'm just listing a few of the great draft classes.

1. 96-97: Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, Ilgauskas, Marbury, Ray Allen, Peja Stojakovic, Antoine Walker. Many others as well. This draft was loaded!!!

2. 03-04: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Josh Howard, Boris Diaw, and some great PGS that should have been drafted earlier in the draft: Barbosa, T.J. Ford, Kirk Hinrich, and I guess you could add Ridnour into that list. Detroit made a HUGE mistake by drafting Darko Milicic with the 2nd pick.

3. 98-99: Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, and Dirk Nowitzki. Plus, some other decent players such as Bibby, Jason Williams, Ricky Davis, Al Harrington, Antawn Jamison.

4. 84-85: Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley, and John Stockton. Great Class! Stockton could have won an MVP or two if he didn't play during Jordan's time. He is just as good as Nash, even though he hasn't won an MVP.

Kobe class(star madness!)
Lebron Class(4 franchise players FRANCHISE not to mention an allstar on the side)
Jordan class(again 4 franchise players, but in the end lebrons class will prove to be better then this)

spydermat was joking, hence the "but seriously" prefix to his second statement

since we have a general basketball discussion forum, I am moving the thread over there where it won't be OT; thanks

I didn't see the "but seriously" part...

Thanks for moving it!

my top three

84/85
96/97
03/04

03/04 class has lots of studs but they are young and only one star (Wade) has an NBA title. 03/04 class definitely has the potential to be the best draft of all time. We will see in the next few years.

A class that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is the 99/00. Players drafted were Manu Ginobili (didn't play until 02), Elton Brand, Steve Francis, Baron Davis, Lamar Odom, Richard Hamilton, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, Corey Maggette, Ron Artest

I vote for 92/93 just because it was the year of Shaq.

i think in the end it will be 03-04 but for now 96-97 for sure... juist 03-04 everyone who was drafted is a good player it seems... darko is even starting to show some signs of like... you have lebron, carmelo, and D Wade which could be the top three players in the league in a few years as well as a ton of solid starters... Bosh, Diaw, Chris Kaman, Leandro Barbosa (who would start on most NBA Teams) Josh Howard, Hinrich, Ford, Ridnour, the list goes on...

if you want the top 5 picks in the draft i would say MJ, Olajuwon, Barkley, stockton would be hard to beat but 03-04 was by far the deepest IMO

Bosh isnt a solid starter he is the franchise.

actualy Darko also got one, and at the start of that draft he was considered more of a star.

But Darko isn't a star in the league right now. My statement did say "star" and only Wade has an NBA title. Darko barely contributed in the Pistons championship run. Heck, I'm sure there are 10 other players from the 03/04 draft that have better stats than Darko.

I still think the 1984-85 draft class is the best ever.

Everyone knows about Olajuwon, Jordan, Barkley, & Stockton. That's 4 HOF's in one draft class. Also, these 4 players are members of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. They combined for 7 MVP awards, 23 All-NBA First Team Selections, and 45 All-Star Game Selections.

But what a lot of people forget is that this draft class was also pretty deep.

Sam Perkins - 17 seasons. 15,000 points and 7,000 rebounds.
Alvin Robertson - 10 seasons. 4 time All-Star, NBA Defensive POY 1985-86 season. Holds the NBA career record for most steals per game (2.7).
Otis Thorpe - 17 seasons. 17,000 points and 10,000 rebounds. 1992 All Star.
Kevin Willis - 21 seasons. 16,000 points & 11,000 rebounds. 1992 All Star.
Jerome Kersey - 17 seasons. 11,000 points & 7,000 rebounds.
Michael Cage - 15 seasons. 8,000 points & 8,000 rebounds. Led NBA with 13.0 rebounds per game in 1987-88.

absolutely not.. lets think logically here. it is a pretty close tie between 96-97 and 03-04...
