Fans of professional basketball in Seattle might not be able to convince the SuperSonics (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=sea) to stay. But if the franchise leaves for Oklahoma City as widely expected, the team name might stay behind.

Good choice. There's nothing supersonic about Oklahoma. Here's some more appropriate names:

Coyotes
Drillers
Harvesters
Mountaineers
Ranchers
Roughnecks
Thunder
Timbers
Turbines
Twisters

Nothing is final, some rich dudes want to buy the Sonics but it might be to late, anyway, this is GOOD news as far as I'm consered, being a SEATTLE SONICS fan, I think the name and history SHOULD stay in Seattle. It's repectful and it's OUR team, it's not some team that any rich person can just buy, you can buy the players but you can't buy the history. Also, I bet if the Sonics do get bought, we will buy a new team in a few years and call them the Sonics, Seattle needs basketball

The Sonics are GONE and it's a damn shame. They only reason they would leave the team name and colors behind is so they don't get SUED by seattle... a la art modell and the cleveland browns...so it's not some charitable thing by the owners, it's just to avoid a lawsuit.

It's all about the stadium & luxury boxes & hotels & suits and Oklahoma willing to pay topdollar. And the name of the team in OK should be the "Oklahoma Dust"
Not crapping on the state but it is what it is.

Sonics may have played their last game in Seattle.

SEATTLE -- For one, perhaps final, night, optimism trumped doom in Seattle.
If this really was the last time the SuperSonics played in this city, nobody convinced the more than 15,000 fans who showed up to watch their beloved team rally to beat the Dallas Mavericks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=dal) 99-95 on Sunday night.

They chanted "Save our Sonics!" and had a far less gracious chant for Sonics owner Clay Bennett. They roared "GP!" when Gary Payton (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=259), the star point guard during Seattle's last heyday in the mid-1990s, took a seat near the Dallas Mavericks' bench early in the second quarter.

"I almost cried, to be honest with you," Sonics rookie star Kevin Durant (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=4244) said. "It was phenomenal.

Gary Payton said it best He personally does not want to see his jersey hanging in the rafters of some Oklahoma Arena that wasn't where he played his games!

Way to go Gary!!!!
