Congrats to KG!! he dominated the voting too.. he had 90 first place votes, Marcus Camby had 12, and Shane Battier had 11.

NEW YORK, April 22, 2008 – The NBA announced today that Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics is the recipient of the 2007-08 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors.

The 6-11 forward led the Celtics in rebounds with a 9.2 average (7.3 defensive rpg), to go along with 18.8 points, 1.2 blocks and 1.4 steals. He recorded a team season-high seven blocks against Chicago on Dec. 12.

As part of its support of the Defensive Player of the Year Award, Kia Motors will donate a brand-new 2009 Kia Borrego seven-passenger SUV on behalf of Garnett to Boston Centers for Youth and Families, the cities’ organization supporting the same youth as Kevin’s “Big Ticket Challenge” program. Kia Motors will present a Borrego to the charity of choice of each of the four year-end award winners in 2008 as part of the “The NBA Performance Awards Presented by Kia Motors.”

Great for him. That means he won't get too much votes for the MVP race

Once again, no respect for the Spurs...who are always at the top when it comes to defense. Oh well. Congrats to KG...

congrats Kevin!! now go for the MVP! (right....)

renegade - it's cuz the spurs as a team are fantastic at D, no one alone is the reason behind it...I am kinda surprised Duncan nor Bowen were in the top 3

My memory fails me, but I don't believe Duncan or Bowen have won this award. Bowen's made the first team for seven years in a row now. The Spurs D would be nothing without Duncan. He anchors it.

Congrats to KG! I think he deserved it the most.

renegade - no, I don't believe either of them have ever won it, but with as good as they are on D, they should, IMO, be in the top 3, or at least Duncan should be in the top 3

the article has the full list of all time players who won the award... it has been dominated by Ben Wallace in recent years, leaving not many a chance to get it.

Actually the Jazz were far and away the best defensive team in the league this year.

Boston a distant second, Houston and San Antonio 3rd and 4th after anothe large gap.

I think KG definitely deserved it. Just look at how much better everybody on that team plays defense because of his presence...
