Dwayne Lorenzo Bowe was born September 21, 1984 in Miami, Florida. Bowe lived a rough life; his father had a drug problem and was really never around. He was brought up his grandparents K.W. and Dorothy Williams. Bowe didn’t start playing football until his junior year of high school. He joined football after he was beat up in a fight at a nightclub; he was beaten up so badly he had to spend the night in a hospital. Bowe’s first career high school play was a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown. In high school he ended up becoming a first-team All-Florida Class 6A selection at Norland Senior High School in Miami, Florida.

After high school, Bowe accepted a scholarship to LSU. There, Bowe won a title in his first year, and JaMarcus Russell and himself developed into a deadly 1-2 punch in the SEC. They hold the record for most touchdowns from one player to another. Bowe also owns the record for most total touchdowns at LSU. LSU was a powerful offensive team with Craig “Buster” Davis, LaRon Landry, Russell, and of course Bowe. They were all first rounders in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Bowe was selected in the first round at the 23rd spot in the draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, who were sorely lacking a #1 caliber receiver. He became a playmaker by week two when he caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. His “break out” games were in week four when he caught eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown against the Jaguars, and in week ten, against division rival Denver, he caught nine passes for 105 yards. He did not win the Offense Rookie of the Year Award despite finishing with 70 catches, 995 yards, and five touchdowns.
