Alexei Leonov (7/19/2019): Mega success!! This one was the first letter I ever mailed out internationally (mailed to Moscow), so I’m glad this came back! He even sent me a 2014 Topps Heritage card back. I didn’t even know there was a card of him! Glad to know I didn’t spend 45 minutes translating/writing a letter in Russian for nothing!

Bill Belichick (7/22/2019): Forgot I sent this one out back in December. I also got a signed letter back. My dad is a Dolphins fan, so I got to sleep outside for the first time in my life! (JOKE)

Bobby Richardson (7/22/2019): Nice! The only WS MVP from the losing team! My card did get damaged though. He has a really nice autograph!

Mike McCormick (7/22/2019): Im kinda bummed on this one, because I didn’t get the card I sent back. I sent him a 1961T and got a 1971T back. The autograph was also a bit... everywhere, but I can’t complain, at least he signed!

Paul Hornung (7/24/2019): Everything comes full circle! He was the first success, and now I finally have a Notre Dame card signed too! He also signed my answer sheet!

Bobby Brown (7/25/2019): Nice! He played with Joe DiMaggio AND Mickey Mantle, and it’s awesome that he’s still signing at 94! He was also the AL president for a while.

Jim Lonborg (7/26/2019): Cool! The Cy Young winners collection grows!

Lenny Wilkens (7/26/2019): Nice! Kinda bummed he didn’t actually sign, but now that I think about it, I paid him $2 to write his favorite play, not to sign. At least he did that. His favorite play is “Basic”. Here’s a photo.

Phil Coyne (7/29/2019): Awesome! My first A&G card I’ve ever gotten signed! He added a “101” inscription and wrote “Ian, Thanks for caring! Phil” on the back! Super nice guy!

Mike Schmidt (7/29/2019): WOOOO!! The day after I got back from Philly too! I went to a Phillies game while I was there. I mentioned that in the letter. I got a picture of the Mike Schmidt statue outside the stadium, so that was perfect timing!

Dub Jones (7/29/2019): Nice!! He holds the (tied) NFL record for most points scored in a game by a player at 36! He also played with the early Browns (1948-1955), so I’d suggest sending to him if you wanna learn about the early Browns from someone who played with them! He also answered all 5 of my questions!

1) What was football like in the 1940s?
Same - Run, Hit - Pass - It was a back log of the war years - 41,42,43,44,45.

2) What was it like to play in the AAFC?
I was 1st draft choice in 1946 with a salary of $12,000.00.

3) Do you think you’ll ever have a chance at the HOF?
No

4) What was it like to play for Paul Brown?
Great - Fair - Smart - Made right decisions.

5) What was it like to play with so many legends (ex. Otto Graham, Dante Lavelli, Bill Willis, etc.)?
Great - We always knew that Otto could and would make “the play”! I played with 18 first-generation Americans and five Black-Americans - All friends.

Ralph Terry (6/26/2019): First Wednesday return since Terry Gilliam! Kinda sad because this is the first time I’ve had a card get damaged in the mail. He accidentally stuck the card to the seal of the envelope and ripped off the area around his wrists on the card. If you wanna see the picture , check out my success under his name in the TTM Manager. He also answered my questions.

1). What was it like to win the 1962 WS and be named it’s MVP?
-Great!

2). What was it like to play with Mickey Mantle?
-He was the BEST!

He also added 2 notes on the question sheet.
”IAN - Thanks for the nice letter!” and “$20-?? You forgot.” I guess that explains why the card got damaged 😂. For future reference, if you’re gonna send to him, DO NOT forget the $20.

Gaylord Perry (6/29/2019): Great! The first Cy Young award winner I’ve gotten since Jim Palmer!

Jim Kaat (6/29/2019): Nice! Not much to say about him, other than he answered my questions.

1). What is the best game you ever played in?
- Game 2 of the 1965 World Series

2). Do you think you’ll ever be a HOFer?
-Maybe!

Dick Groat (7/1/2019): Awesome!! A new oldest card I’ve gotten signed, as I got it on a 1953 Topps. I didn’t know his, but the card is apparently worth ~$20, so it’s also the most valuable card I’ve sent out! He also answered (one of) my questions!

1). What was it like to play baseball & basketball? [He played for the Fort Wayne Pistons (the precursor to the Detroit Pistons) from 1952-1953]
-Great Fun

2). What was it like to win the 1960 World Series?
He didn’t answer this one

Tony LaRussa (7/1/2019): Nice! I was gonna send a A’s card to him also (for my dad), but I didn’t wanna hinder my chances of him signing. That, and I only have 1 A’s card of him.

Carl Erskine (7/2/2019): Awesome!! I bought a 1958T of him for only $1, so I payed $2 to get 3 autographs from him! Very nice guy! He added a “#17” inscription on the ‘58 Topps, and sent me his own card! He even signed my question sheet with “#17” and “Dodgers” inscriptions! My questions were:

1). What was it like to play in 4 World Series in 5 seasons?
- I was fortunate to pitch for a great team. - An honor to be in 11 W.S. Games

2). What was your favorite pitch?
He didn’t answer this one.

Dan Issel (7/10/2019): Exactly 1 year after I got Charley Trippi! Very nice to get a actual basketball card signed! Now I just have to wait for Robert Parish to sign to get another!

Denny McLain (7/11/2019): WOOOOOO!!!! MY 200TH TTM AUTOGRAPH!!! He added a “31-6, 1968” inscription. I wrote him a very nice thank you note for my 200th TTM auto and mailed it yesterday.

Joe Arenas (7/11/2019): My 2nd Purple Heart winner! He fought in Iwo Jima and got hit with shrapnel. He even sent me a second ‘54 Bowman!! I would definitely recommend sending to him if you are doing a WWII collection.

I’m gonna be in Philly from 7/25-7/29, so I decided to add these now before I forget to next week.

I’m gonna be in Philly from 7/25-7/29, so I decided to add these now before I forget to next week.

Bobby Shantz (6/22/2019): Nice! My first return in 17 days! Sent a 1975 Topps MVPs card. Shantz is the oldest living MVP at 93 years old!

Ryne Sandberg (6/24/2019): One of the record-tying 4 successes that day. Great that he signed for free!! I got t on a ‘91 Fleer because (HOT TAKE ALERT) I actually like the design of ‘91 Fleer.

”Curly” Morrison (6/24/2019): The second of 4 successes that day, he is the one I was most excited about. He broke the record for oldest card I’ve gotten signed, as I sent a 1954 Bowman. He also sent me back a few little notes & answered my questions. My questions were:
1). What was it like to play for Wes Fesler [Ohio State Coach from 1947-1950]?
-Great! He was a very good coach! and we had a great stay and Ohio State was the Best university in the country!!

2). What was it like to play for George Halas?
-Halas was very smart, great assistant coaches! Clark Shamace - The T-formation innovator!!!

3). What was the NFL Draft like in 1950? [He was taken 10th overall]
-Didn’t know much about it then? ‘Til I read about it in the papers.

He also wrote a note about Paul Brown on the back of the questions sheet.
“Paul Brown - without a doubt was the greatest of all time as far as coaches go! But that guy up in New England ain’t to bad!

That part made me laugh!

He also put a nice note with the letter.
”IAN- I have a grandson named Ian. I will share your very nice letter with him!

Leo Sanford (6/24/2019): The 3rd of 4 successes that day! He personalized my card and answered my questions.

1). What was it like to play for Curly Lambeau? [Sanford’s rookie year was Lambeau’s last in Chicago]
-Playing for Curly Lambeau was different. Back in his early coaching they didn’t play with a lot of detail and he had a hard time on some of the games!!!

2). What was it like to play in the “Greatest Game Ever Played” [1958 NFL Championship]?
-You knew you were playing in the best game of that time, and it was a great feeling!!! You gave it everything you could do to win!!

Bob Cousy (6/24/2019): My first basketball success!!!!! I now have at least one guy from all the Big 4 sports!! He signed my index card with “To Ian- Thank you for your letter!” and a “Red” inscription. Unfortunately, according to his daughter, “My dad is no longer able to answer questions in depth”. If you plan on writing a letter to him, do NOT ask questions.

This is is long enough so I will make a part 2 shortly.

Jim Everett (4/11/19): Nice! Not much to say about him, but he did notice it on my Twitter (@StarrsCards), so that pretty cool!

Don Beebe (4/12/19): Dang. He didn’t answer my questions about Super Bowl XXXI!!! Well, now I have to hope that Mike Holmgren will answer. Still cool though!!

Johnny Rodgers (4/12/19): Nice!! The first Heisman winner I’ve gotten since Tony Dorsett! As usual, his autograph takes up the whole card, and I love that!! Also cool he didn’t charge me the usual $20!

Paul Krause (4/13/19): He made me wait a while on this one!! This one also has a funny story. So this one was sent in October 2018. I wait 3 months between mailing out another letter, so in late December, i mailed a second one to him. The second one came back in February with his usual price list. Then a few months later, he sends the first one back and he signs it!! Crazy.

Ty Law (4/15/19): Wooo!! The first guy from the new HOF class since Gil Brandt back in October!! Also, apparently he doesn’t sign through the mail anymore, so I caught him just in time!

Bucky Dent (4/20/19): Nice! My 4th baseball success! I’m from Columbus, so it was interesting when I found out that he was the manager of the Clippers in the late 80s. Also the first Yankees success I’ve gotten!

Ray Whitney (4/22/19): My first Hockey success! Nice to see that it was from a Blue Jacket too!! Now I have his autograph to go with my bobble head!

John Henderson (4/22/19): Holy crap! This dude is 106 years old!! And he is able to sign?!?! He even sent me back to articles that he signed!! He also put return stickers on the index card and articles. Please send to him if you are a Texas Longhorns fan!!

Charley Johnson (5/4/19): First Broncos success in a while! Nothing else to say about him.

Terry Gilliam (5/8/19): WOOOOOOO!!!!!! My first international letter was a success!!!! I have been watching Monty Python all summer, and it’s awesome that one of the members signed for me!! Now onto John Cleese. And maybe Terry Jones, but I might be a bit too late for him. Gilliam said that his favorite Flying Circus sketch was “The sketch where Cleese comes to a funeral director dragging the corpse of his mother in a bag wanting to find the best way of disposing of her.” I’ll have to see which episode it’s in.

Mike Tomczak (6/5/19): Almost a month between successes!!! He also noticed this on Twitter. Nice that a Ohio State player ended my nothing streak!

Im finally caught up! Unless I get one tomorrow. I really hope I get one tomorrow. I haven’t even got anything since then!!!!!

Its been a long time. Now that school’s out I can get back to this.

“Pete” Brewster (1/28/19): Nice to see that he signed and added a few inscriptions, but it sucks he didn’t answer my questions about Paul Brown. Oh well.

Cecil Souders (1/29/19): My new oldest person who’s signed for me!! It’s awesome that he sent me a sheet of paper that he signed twice!! Amazed I got 4 signatures from someone who’s 98! Great to see he’s doing good.

Tony Dorsett (2/2/19): Wooo!! This is a big one!! Now I’m only 1 person away from completing my set of the HOF Class of ‘94!! Hopefully I can get Randy White to sign for me. Also, apparently he’s charging $95 per autograph at the NSCC! Holy crap!!

Jack Ham (2/4/19): Nice! Apparently he doesn’t sign often, so I must have caught him on a good day! I now have the full set of the HOF Class of ‘88 (I bought a Biletnikoff and Page)!!

Walter Jones (2/4/19): Cool! My little cousin is a huge Seahawks fan, and he was amazed that I got Walter Jones to sign a card he gave me! I can also tell that he did actually sign it because there is a fingerprint on the signature. Guess he didn’t wanna wait for it to dry.

Del Shofner (2/4/19): If you are reading this one Mr. Shofner, I am very sorry I mistaked you for Deion Sanders. I initial all my envelopes and I forgot that I even sent a letter to you, so I saw “DS” and thought “DEION SANDERS?!?!” Don’t worry, Deion didn’t end up signing for me anyway :(. I’m sending a second one to him with a card this time so I don’t mistake him for Deion.

Jason Taylor (2/5/19): Very cool!! My dad is a huge Dolphins fan, and I sent him a second card for my dad, but he didn’t sign it. Probably because the card I sent for my dad was a chrome card. I guess he knows that chrome cards aren’t good with autographs. At least he signed the Classics for me. Another Classics card for the collection!

Shane Conlan (2/7/19): Awesome!! My dad actually met him in a bar in Jamestown, NY, and he said that Shane was very nice. He even bought my dad a drink! Sucks I couldn’t find a second card of him for my dad, but I’ll find one eventually.

Mark Brunell (2/8/19): Nice!! I used to be a Jaguars fan, and my mom actually has a picture of me as a toddler wearing a Brunell Jersey! I wish I could have found the picture so I could send him a copy, but at least I now have a Brunell autograph!! Especially on a Classics card!!!

Willie McGinest (2/11/19): Cool! Of course my uncle would taunt me for getting a Patriots player’s autograph even though he didn’t care when I got Gino Cappelletti, who is in the Patriots Hall of Fame and has his number 20 retired by them!! My uncle is a 49ers fan.

Bob Griese (2/15/19): Amazing!!! Hriese was one of the early letters I sent out!! Back when I thought that sending football cards in 6x9 envelopes made sense. That’s probably why Barry Sanders refuses to open my letter. I’m getting off track again. My dad was amazed that I got Griese to sign, especially on the day that we went to the Hall of Fame. Great thing to come back to!

Howard Twilley (2/16/19): Two Dolphins in a row?! Cool. Twilley is one of the 3 players I have paid to sign for me. The other two were Don Maynard and Len Dawson. Why did I pay him? Because he has the courtesy to answer my football questions BEFORE asking me for money. I have never seen that before! Very nice guy, he even sent me a SASE to mail the cash to him! I would recommend sending to him if you’re a Dolphins fan.

George W. Bush (2/21/19): Woah. This is insane!! A former President signed a 8x10 and sent me a whole letter back too!! I already have it framed next to my Marv Levy 8x10!

Bill Cowher (2/22/19): First Steelers success in a few weeks! Nice that he put a SBXL inscription, but it sucks that he didn’t draw his favorite play on the index card as requested. Guess you have to pay him for that then. Maybe I can get Mike Holmgren to do that.

Cliff Branch (2/22/19): First Raiders success in a month!! I can’t beleive I forgot to send him the Classics though!!! That was the card I sent to him in the first letter, but that one came back RTS.

Dave Robinson (2/25/19): WOOOOO!!!! First Lombardi Packer I’ve gotten in months!! He even added a HOF inscription, Jersey # inscription, and personalized it!! He also answered my questions about the Ice Bowl!! Thank you Dave Robinson, very cool!

Jerry Kramer (2/28/19): HOLY $h!t!! The second letter I ever sent out!! And he added a HOF inscription!!! I already got it framed with my Jerry Kramer 8x10 that was signed in silver at the 2018 NSCC.

Vince Papale (2/28/19): Nice!! I recently watched Invincible, and it was a cool movie. Apparently, he was actually in the movie as a backup in the Training Camp scene. I didn’t know that. He also added “DREAM BIG”. Very cool!

Mercury Morris (3/4/19): Cool! He sent me a 1997 UD Legends card AND a second index card! Apparently he had a long time friend also named Ian! Very nice guy!

Gary Collins (3/8/19): Nice! He also signed the index card I sent to him for my friend, and he told me that “Ian, most players are not going to sign and make orders for free!” Thanks Gary Collins. I got life advice from the 1964 NFL Championship Game MVP!

Jesse Freitas Sr. (3/8/19): Woo! My new oldest person who’s signed for me!! He’s older than Cecil Souders by about a month! He was one of the original 49ers, and he added a “49ers 1946-‘47” inscription! Very cool!

Phil Coyne (3/29/19): Yes, you do see the date right. I got absolutely nothing for 21 days. That’s what I get for not mailing anything for a month. Also, ANOTHER new oldest person who’s signed for me! He’s 100 (101 now), as he put a “100” inscription on my index card, and on the other index card he sent! He also sent me these cool info cards about the 1960 World Series, and apparently he signed the back of the index card I sent him, but I didn’t even see it until a few days ago! Awesome for 100 (101) years old!!!

Bobby Beathard (3/29/19): Nice! I heard he is pretty Hit or Miss, so I caught him on a good day!! He signed both sides of my card and wrote me a little message on the index card I sent! Stinks he didn’t put a HOF inscription? But then again he refuses to sign his HOF card for some reason, so maybe he doesn’t want to do anything involving the HOF? I don’t know.

Happy Feller (3/29/19): Epic! Yes, he is a Happy Feller. He told me on the bottom of the letter I wrote to him. Very funny!!

Jim Palmer (3/30/19): Woo! My 3rd baseball success! He only signed one of the 2 cards I sent, but is awesome that he Personalized the one he did sign! Awesome!!

Ed “Too Tall” Jones (4/1/19): One of the 3 successes from that day, I am floored by the result! For context, I sent him a 2017 Classics in July 2018. I sent him a 1989 Topps, and low and behold, when I opened the envelope the 2017 Classics was in there!!! The dude held onto my card since JULY!!!! If I send another card to him, I will make sure I pay him for holding onto my card for 10 months!!

Steve Atwater (4/1/19): Nice. Cool that I finally got him after 2 failed attempts (Both RTS). Also, thanks for not taunting me by putting a Super Bowl XXXII inscription. I am a huge Packers fan, if you didn’t know.

James Laurinaitis (4/1/19): Woo!! I actually got to meet him at a OSU basketball game, and I got a picture with him, which is what I mailed to him! I actually got to see him again the next night, because he showed up to a special needs prom I was a helper in. If you’re wondering which one, it was Night to Shine. I also got to meet Urban Meyer there too, and got a picture with him, and he even signed an index card for me!! The kingpin to my OSU collection has arrived!

Neil Worden (4/2/19): Nice! Apparently he didn’t play in 1953, which stinks because I bought he was a part of the 1953 Undefeated Notre Dame football team. He did put some insight on what football was like in the 1950s though.

Mel Renfro (4/4/19): Wow! He signed both sides?!?! I was not expecting that!!

Bruce Van Dyke (4/5/19): Neat! Unfortunately I didn’t get a very goo description of what it was like to play for Chuck Noll, but at least the card looks cool signed!

Howard Mudd (4/5/19): Cool! I wasn’t expecting him to sign via the Colts, but he did! He also said that it was cool to coach 2 future HOFers in their rookie years (Walter Jones & Kevin Mawae). He was the Offensive Line coach for the Seahawks in the mid 90s.

Mark Chmura (4/8/19): Nice! I don’t understand why no one will answer my questions about Super Bowl XXXI though. Leroy Butler didn’t answer my questions, Gilbert Brown didn’t answer them, Mark Chmura didn’t answer. Maybe Don Beebe will answer my questions. Also my first 2016 Classics card I’ve gotten signed.

Roger Staubach (4/8/19): Pretty self explanatory about my reaction. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! He even added a “12” inscription this time! I also now know that he doesn’t do autopen, because the autograph on this one isn’t the same as the one on the card I sent him in August. Also my first numbered card I’ve gotten signed. The card I got was numbered 64/99.

Im very tired right now, so I’ll get the rest later today. Thanks for reading!!

My 1st post of 2019!

Tony Dungy (12/10): Nice one! Added “SB XLI Champs” and “Matt 16:26”. Unfortunately, it did get really damaged in the top loader.

Tom Mack (12/15): My 1st (and only) *ichigan success. I’m a Ohio State fan, but he’s actually pretty cool. Also included a HOF Card too! The 2nd player to put a team inscription because he put “LA Rams”.

Peyton Manning (12/17): WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Possibly the biggest name I’ve gotten back!!! I’m amazed he even signed it for FREE!!

Sterling Sharpe (12/20): Nice! Been trying to get his autograph for a while, and I finally got it!

Tom Matte (12/20): O-H-I-O!!! Now I have both of the SBIII runningbacks! Also put “Colts” and “41” (jersey #) on both cards, despite one of them has him on the Chargers. Also answered my questions. I later found out that he was the QB in the 1965 NFL Championship when Johnny Unitas got injured. That means he played against the Lombardi Packers! Had I known that when I sent that one out, I would have asked him what it was like!

Ronnie Lott (12/22): RONNIE LOTT SENT ME A 8x10!!!! WHAT?!?! Didn’t expect that to happen!!!

Charley Trippi (12/24): WOO!! My new oldest card I’ve gotten signed (1955 Bowman)! Also glad because I got a early Christmas present!

Len Dawson (12/26): FINALLY!! After 4 tries, I finally got Len Dawson to sign! super clean autograph, and I plan on getting it authenticated soon!

Gino Cappeletti (12/29): This dude is awesome! He is exactly 70 years older than me! I was born 3/26/2004, and he was born 3/26/1934!! I’ll definitely make sure I send him a birthday card when my, er, our birthday rolls around!

James Laurinaitis (12/31): Nice! His fanmaik address is literally a 20 minute drive from where I live, so that’s hilarious! He said the best part of playing for Ohio State was beating *ichigan 4 years in a row!!

Roman Gabriel (12/31): Wow! Awesome guy! He inscribed my card with “18”, “To Ian, My Best”, and even answered my questions! He might have even predicted that the Rams would go to the Super Bowl!

Juju Smith-Schuster (11/4): Dorkwad Steelers sent me a FAKE autograph!!! It’s a PRINTED AUTOGRAPH!!!

Gilbert Brown & LeRoy Butler (1/5): DOUBLE PACKERS DAY!!! Great first REAL AUTOGRAPH return of 2019!! The best part is that I bough a autographed Gilbert Brown Card earlier that day! They both included Jersey # inscriptions (93 for Brown, and 36 for Butler). LeRoy Butler didn’t answer my question though, so me and my dad will have to remain clueless on wether it’s “La-ROY” or “LEE-Roy”.

Andy Russell (1/7): Great dude! He signed my ‘68 Topps, and even wrote me back a letter that he signed twice! Nice!

Manny Fernandez (1/7): My dad (who is a Dolphins fan) completely lost his mind over this one, because Fernandez put “17-0” on his autograph.

Steve Owens (1/8): First Heisman Winner I’ve gotten since Roger Staubach!! Inscribed “‘71 All Pro”, which wasn’t even on his wiki page. I got to add something to Wikipedia!

Mike Wagner (1/9): My friends are telling me that I need to become a Steelers fan now. That’s great. I’m supervised that he didn’t sign it very big.

Boyd Dowler (1/11): Nice! He signed my ‘65 Philadelphia, and even sent me a index card that he personalized and put “#86” on! Now I have 2 index cards signed by him!

Eli Manning (1/14): WOO!! My 2nd Active player! Now I just need Archie to get the trifecta!

Bobby Bell (1/14): Finally! I must’ve messed up the return envelope for the 1st letter that I sent to him. I sent that one in September to the Shagbark St. address and I never heard back. So I sent a second one, and he signed!

E.J. Holub (1/14): Nice! I was hoping that this would be a good omen for the Chiefs in the AFC Championship, but oh well, now I have to watch Brady in ANOTHER super bowl >:(

George Seifert (1/17): I’m surprised that he signed all 3! I thought I might be lucky for him to sign 2/3!! He didn’t write down his favorite play on my index card though :( Oh well, I guess I’ll try that with Dick Vermeil.

Dave Wilcox (1/18): Very happy with how this turned out! He signed the card for me, and the index card for my uncle (who is a HUGE 49ers fan)! He even put “49ers” on the index card! 3rd player to put a team inscription, and the 2nd 49ers guy to do that!

Phil Niekro (1/18): WOOOOOO!!!!! My 1st Baseball success!! He made it oddly specific though. He put “To [my age] yr. old Ian [my full name],”. He even dated it, which I heard he doesn’t normally do. Huh.

Raymond Chester (1/22): Nice! My 1st Raiders success in a long while! Put “87” on both cards!

That’s all for now, hope you had a Merry Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanza (even though it’s a month after).

Tom Flores (11/6): Nice! I literally saw this address on another address and thought I should send him my Suoer Bowl Supermen Card of him I had. I found the SB XV Card in a stack and thought I should send that one too! The first person I’ve sent more than 1 card to, so I’m glad he Signed both!

Joe Theismann (11/8): WOW! I got really lucky on getting his for FREE! I heard he normally charges $40, so he must have really liked my letter!

Dan Hampton (11/10): I was in West Virginia when this letter got back so I had to wait a few days to open it, and it drove me nuts! Yes, I know that I, a Packers fan, sent a autograph request to Dan Hampton, a Bears player, but he’s one of the few Bears players I actually like! He put a different inscription on the 2 cards I sent, so that’s pretty neat! He put “99” on the ‘89 Topps and “HOF 2002” on the ‘89 Pro Set.

Henry Ellard (11/13): Very cool! There’s a official autographed version of the card I sent him (2018 Classics), and it’s #’d of 20! I can now (technically) say that I have a autographed card #’d of 20!

Matt Snell (11/13): OH YEAH!! Ohio State success!!! Being from Central Ohio, this is a huge victory for me! He even answered my OSU questions in red pencil and added a “I-O” after my “O-H” at the end of the letter!

Willie Lanier (11/13): Honestly, I only sent this one out because he’s a HOFer. My uncle is a huge Chiefs fan, so he was excited to hear that I got his autograph! Lanier even answered my questions, even though he signed the same side he answered the questions on. Odd, but still awesome!

Aneas Williams (11/16): It actually took me 3 months to figure out how to pronounce his first name right and I still feel bad about it. It pronounced “a-NEE-us”, not “A-neeus”. He also put a bible verse on the card, so I got to go look it up and it says “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”(Romans 10:9)

Joe Schmidt (11/16): Yes, I know I already had his autograph on a index card, but I only sent a second one out because I finally found a card of him. A 1959 Topps if you’re wondering. Pretty cool to have a autographed 60-year-old card in my collection. Speaking of which...

Pete Retzlaff (11/17): I sent a 1959 Topps to Retzlaff too! He signed it in sharpie this time, as opposed to signing it in ballpoint pen last time. Nice to know he’s still signing at 87 years old!

Cliff Harris (11/19): Great! I honestly forgot I sent a letter to him... He even answered my questions about the Cowboys!

Jan Stenerud (11/23): My 70th Success!!! It turns out that I now have 2 autographs of him, because 4 days after I sent out the letter to him, I went to the NSCC and bought a signed 8x10 of him. I still feel kinda awkward about that.

Jeff George (11/26): I forgot I sent one to him too. I thought it was Jeff Garcia when I got it back. He sent me a cool testimonial card too! Really nice guy :)

Larry Little (11/27): #FinsUp! My dad is a huge Dolphins fan, and I’m 85% sure that the fact that he can get Larry Little’s autograph is gonna get him into TTM Autographs!

Jamaal Williams (11/29): WOOOOOOOOO!!!!! My 1st NOT-Retired player!!! Still waiting for him to see my post on Twitter though (SHAMELESS PLUG @StarrsCards)

Ed Meador (11/29): The 2 best parts about this one is that A). He accidentally put “To Jan” instead of “To Ian”. (Probably not his fault, I mean he is 81) and B) when I asked him what the NFL was like in the 60’s, he said “We respected our opposing players and we did NOT kneel for the National Anthem.” Wow. I had no idea that even the retired players were talking about that...

Scott Hunter (11/30): Very happy This one came back, as I may or may not have forgotten to put a return address on the envelope...

Bill Parcells (11/30): Very glad this one came back a success, as I had already tried to get his autograph, only to be hit with the dreaded yellow sticker. Sent a 1990 Pro Set SB XXI Card and a ‘91 Score SB XXV card. Got both back signed and personalized.

Bert Jones (11/30): Check out my other post (New Best Return???) for the details, but in short, Sent 2 and got 4 back!

Lee Roy Jordan (12/1): The night before I got this back, I watched the Cowboys vs Saints game, and saw all the Cowboys Ring Of Honor members with Gil Brandt, and I saw him among them! Pretty cool!

Eric Metcalf (12/3): Nice! At least he actually noticed the post on Twitter! (ANOTHER SHAMELESS PLUG @StarrsCards)

Dick Anderson (12/6): Yet again, my dad is a huge Dolphins fan, and was glad to hear I got his autograph (especially seeing how he gave me the card I sent to Anderson)!

This is probably gonna be the last post I make in 2018, as my mid-terms are coming soon, so Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza, and have a Happy New Year!

Jim Kelly (10/20): This one was one I was questioning wether I should send it because of the whole Oral Cancer coming back thing... Glad to know he’s doing well enough to sign autographs! Hope he gets better soon!

Eddie DeBartolo Jr. (10/22): Great! My uncle is a huge 49ers fan, and he was amazed when I told him I got DeBartolo’s autograph! My aunt is from Youngstown too, so even she knew who he is!

Jackie Smith (10/22): Great return time!! I sent him a index card because I couldn’t find a football card of him and of course, the day after I sent it I found the card I was looking for! At least he still signed it! He has a beautiful autograph. He also put what I’m guessing is “81” (His Jersey #), but if he did, then he put a really bad 8. Still a awesome guy!

Joe DeLamielleure (10/27): Half of my family is from Dunkirk, NY (about 45 minutes from Buffalo) so they were all excited to hear I got a bills player’s autograph.

Jim Langer (10/27): Fins Up! Still only 1 truly undefeated team! And he was a part of it!!

Lynn Dickey (10/29): Asked for a GB HOF ‘92 inscription but for a #10 inscription instead. Still a really nice autograph!

Billy Kilmer (11/1): MY 50TH AUTOGRAPH (if you count the players who signed 1+ item)!!! That’s the guy who fumbled the ball before Jim Marshall snatched it and ran 66 Yards... IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!!!
(I’m a Packers fan)

Jerry Jones (11/3): Check our my post “Best return yet?” For the details.

James Lofton (11/3): Great autograph! Forgot he dates his autographs so I got a “2018” inscription! Go Pack Go!

Rocky Bleier (11/5): WOOOOO!!! Purple Heart winning autograph!!! Truly honored to have his autograph, as he put his football career on hold to serve in Vietnam. I wish there was a saluting emoji.

Yesterday I got Jerry Jones’ autograph...
3 autographs from him!
I sent him a 2018 Score Cowboys team card and some questions.
I got some Cowboys temporary tattoos, a signed HOF Card (as requested), Signed 2017 Cowboys team photo, AND a really nice letter back that he also signed. The letter is the main part that I like the most.
It reads:

Dear Ian:

Thank you for your recent letter. I enjoy receiveping letters from enthusiastic students like yourself. I hope you are enjoying school and doing well in your classes. Make sure to be a part of school activities. Many of life’s most important life lessons are learned through team sports.

Football taught me the importance of setting goals and working hard to reach them. This is something that I have carried with me and that I use on a day-to-day basis. Setting goals for yourself is to the most important component for success.

Whatever future path you pursue, getting the most out of your education is the most important thing. While you are still in school, it is important to gain practical experience in the field that you would like to pursue after you graduate. Also, earning a graduate degree in your future area of interest is a good thing to think about.

We are looking forward to a very exciting 2018 football season, and will carry on the pursuit of excellence in making the Dallas Cowboys the best team in the league. Our coaches, players, and staff appreciate your support more than you know.

Thank you for being such a dedicated Cowboys fan!

Jerry Jones

Wow. That’s amazing that he sent me a huge letter. The best part is that he called me a Cowboys fan, even though I’m a Packers fan... maybe I should have mentioned something about that... Surprisingly, he didn’t answer the questions I asked him. I asked him:
1) What is it like being the owner of the Cowboys?
2) Who is your favorite Cowboys player of all time? (Mine is Staubach)
3) How ‘bout them Cowboys? (This one was a joke)
At least for now, this is truly the best one I’ve gotten yet! Oh, I forgot to mention that he also personalized the team photo.
Here are pictures of the HOF Card and Team photo. I can’t put a photo of the letter because he put my address on it.
He signed the 1970 Topps (didn’t personalize it to my grandfather as requested) and he didn’t send back the index card, but he did put “HOF ‘83” on the card.

Curley Culp (10/1): Great Return time! Didn’t sign the card I sent (2018 Classics), tried to charge me $45 to sign it, but yet he sent me back a Signed HOF 4x6 AND a Signed HOF Card too! No logic whatsoever.

Pete Retzlaff (10/2): This is the one guy from the 1960 Eagles who I actually like! Amazing this guy still signed autographs at 87!!! Sent a 1962 Post Cereal Card I bought at a yard sale for $0.50, so I’m satisfied!!

Terry Bradshaw (10/7): WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I can’t believe he actually signed it! He’s the only Steelers player I actually care about!!! I have a ton of friends who are Steelers fans, and they are all super jealous!

Chris Hanburger (10/7): Great return time! Personalized it and put “HOF 2011” on it too, so great!

Mick Tingelhoff (10/7): One of the few Vikings players I care about, I’m glad that Tingelhoff signed it! Wish he would have signed it bigger though :/

Gil Brandt (10/7): Woo! Sent a 1990 Pro Set Super Bowl XII Ticket card, and received it back signed in thin sharpie with a extra... sticker? Card? I don’t know what it is, but it’s signed! He said the Packers should be America’s Team, so he gets a A+ in my book :)

Just realized that I haven’t been posting my successes on my blog. Well, here’s the updates:

Johnny Robinson (9/24) Robinson is the Senior Finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, so its great he signed my football card!! Seeing how every senior finalist has been inducted, I think there’s a pretty high chance that he will be inducted this year.

Bud Grant (9/25) My 30th Success!!! Great one too! He usually charges $10 per autograph, but he signed mine for free! I think the fact I told him that I’m a Packers fan persuaded him...

Charlie Joiner (9/27) Great guy! Completely forgot I sent a letter to him until I it it back. Took exactly a month, as I sent his out on 8/27 and received it 9/27. Hilarious!!

Roger Wherli (9/28) Great Return time!! He usually barges $5 per autograph, but he signed mine for free!! I think it’s that I told him that no one can say my name right either that persuaded him! They even spelled his name wrong on the football card, which I didn’t realize until I got it back!

Today I got back 3 more players! I got back Carroll Dale, Ozzie Newsome, and Paul Warfield! Dale sent me back a second card, which is why I’m counting it as 2 successes. Dale put what I’m guessing is “To (my full name)” on the first one (its hard to tell), and he also put “To Ian” and “84” on the card he sent back. He also answered my questions too!!! New some and Warfield both put HOF inscriptions (Newsome was “HOF 99”, and Warfield was “HOF 83”). Warfield Signed in what I’m guessing is fine-point blue sharpie, as there are no indents so it’s not pen. My father is a huge Dolphins fan, so he was very impressed when I showed him.

And if you’re wondering the questions I asked Dale, they were:
Q1: What was it like to play for Vince Lombardi?
A1:Coach Lombardi was great to play for. He was a straight shooter - you knew where you stood with him. His mind was always on “What’s best for the team”.

Q2: What was is like to be on the 1st team to win the Super Bowl?
A2: Great to win NFL championship in 1965 and 1st Super Bowl in 1966. Being part of a FIRST is special!
