Yesterday Upper Deck released trading to their e-Pack platform; I had a simple goal complete my base set and get enough to combine for a couple of foils. I started with about 280 cards and I have to say trading was a breeze, I started with a few trades with the locals who had posted to the new forum http://www.sportscardforum.com/forum...Deck-e-Trading and then started stalking the Public Forum on the Upper Deck e-Pack site. Less then 24 hours in to trading I have completed my base set and have the following foils: Gaudreau, Eberle, Hall, Stamkos, and Hedman; it was very addicting. I am looking forward to future Upper Deck e-Pack releases.

For their 1985-86 sets O-Pee-Chee and Topps started putting cards on the bottom of their boxes in 4 card panels. These cards features different art but looked very similar to the regular issue cards. This trend continued until the 1990-91 sets. Upper Deck followed suit with their 1991-92 box bottoms being 1 large card but shortly after that box bottom cards disappeared. In recent years Upper Deck has revived that trend on their new O-Pee-Chee product but this post will focus on the older stuff.
1985-86 O-Pee-Chee Box Bottoms - This set really started things off right featuring the rookie Mario Lemieux. Cards were same design as the regular set but had yellow borders instead of white.

In 1990 the Edmonton Oilers were on there way to their fifth Stanley Cup win in seven years. But in the 2nd game of the playoffs on April 6th they faced off against against some crazy Jets fan. I guess the 7 to 5 victory for the Jets in game one boosted their confidence because the Jets fans entered the Coliseum with painted faces and Jets flags draped over there shoulders like they were Superman while chanting: "We're number one! We're number one!".

The Jets scored two goals in 1st period, the Oilers did not get on to the scoreboard until the 3rd period. At the end of regulation the game was tied 2 to 2. In overtime Mark Lamb scored the winner.

The Molson Cup 3 Stars were:

#1 - Mark Lamb

#2 - Brent Ashton

#3 - Bill Ranford

After the game was over those Jets fans were still chanting but there cries had changed to: "We had more fun! We had more fun!" The Oilers would go on to win the series in 7 games and eventually the Stanley Cup.

After my last post about the 1974-75 O-Pee-Chee WHA I really fell in love with the SCF Image View for sets and immediately starting scanning this set. I finally finished the tedious task of scanning, cropping and uploading and wanted to show you all the final result. Please see the set images at the end of this post. I had been collecting this set for awhile and finally came across the last card in 2008.

This set features both red (1 to 198) and green (199 to 264) border cards.

It has a number of rookie cards including: Bill Barber, Billy Smith, Dave Schultz, Larry Robinson, and Terry O'Reilly.

The backs of the cards featured the players 1972-73 stats, a cartoon, and they were printed on either grey or cream coloured stock.

I hope you have enjoyed this blast from the past!

Paul Coffey played 1409 games in the NHL with 9 teams and was inducted in to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004; this is his story in 9 cards.

I had read on SCF somewhere about collecting 9 cards of a player to tell their story. I was going through some cards from my 2000-01 UD Vintage set and came across Paul Coffey in a Bruins uniform and though that I could easily do a 9 card collection for him. Turns out that is not as easy as I had hoped as Coffey played for 9 teams in his career and I do not have cards of him with every team he played for. I debated just finding images of his cards on the Internet but that would be cheating so I will just go with 9 cards I have and maybe some day I will be able to add cards of him with the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes.

Paul was drafted 6th overall by the Oilers in 1980.

Rookie Card - 1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #111

Paul played 7 seasons with Oilers winning 3 Stanley Cups and setting numerous team and NHL records.
1987-88 O-Pee-Chee Minis #8

I started a Lee Fogolin collection by accident; that is my story and I am sticking to it. Disillusioned by the card boom of the early 1990s and outraged by the cost of newer product I decided to focus my attention on the card sets of my childhood.

Goal 1 - Complete the O-Pee-Chee sets of the 1980s.

A daunting task but I had a good start on most sets from my collecting as a child. The base sets are now complete, so are the box bottoms, supersized, and minis. I have also have wax pack wrappers from almost every set (just missing a couple). But what does this have to do with Lee Fogolin you ask...

Goal 2 - Get at least 1 card from every set in the 1970s and 1980s.

After completing my 1980s O-Pee-Chee sets I needed a new goal; so set off to get 1 card from every set in the 70s & 80s. Doing that I tried to Focus my attention on my favourite team the Edmonton Oilers. Unfortunately the Oilers did not exist in parts of the 70s; so when choosing cards from those sets I focused in on players who became Oilers so in doing that acquired a lot of Lee Fogolin cards. SCF has 45 Lee Fogolin cards (made in the 70s & 80s) listed in their OPG. So far I have collected 23 of those (51%).

And that is how I started my Lee Fogolin collection. Below is images of some of those cards:

I am not sure how many trips my dad made to Edmonton to get me the complete set but all the cards are in the album. I am not sure who wrote my sisters name on the front cover of the album (maybe there is another album with my name on it). But it definitely takes me back to when collecting was about having something tangible in your hand and not worrying about getting it in to a protector. Flipping through the pages now brings back memories and being aloud to play with my cards is probably the reason I still collect today.

Let's take a look inside:
Yes I actually wrote in the book!
Well I hope you found my 1st blog post interesting and that you get to play with your cards!
