Today, I spent a good portion of the day moving stuff out of the basement and into the Garage, other rooms of the house, or just straight into the trash.

A couple of the highlights was getting rid of some old electrical wiring, in which I now have a line that I can run some additional lighting if need be.

I also decided what aspect i'm going to start with. Ok, the decision was made for me. I found a couple areas of the cement floor that are not 100% level. Because of this, if I were to put the wall up first, I would run the risk of having walls that were not level (or plum).

Thus, I'll be starting with the subfloor. I'm going to be dropping a bundle on a product called dricore (http://www.dricore.com/en/eIndex.aspx). However there are 2 things I love about this product.

1. I will lose only 1 inch of space
2. The product allows for air flow... much less chance of mold

The one thing I don't like about it, the price. Lowes and Home Depot have it for $6.78 per 4 sq.ft section. The area that I'm starting with is 26ftx15ft, you can do the math!

The main part of the room will be essentially 2 sections, with a bathroom. Main area is going to be around 26ft by 14.5 ft. I might be adding in a half wall to create some separation and some storage space.

The first pic is the current condition of the stairs.



As one can see, the stairs need some help, badly! The plan is to sand the stairs down a bit if needed, but I think we will carpet them.

Next is a few from the stairs, looking into the front part of the basement.



The red paint on the floor is drylock. I also have put drylock on the walls. There is not much of a concern with water, but any additional precautions I can take, I will take.

Next is the back of the main room, which currently is occupied by my 2 cats



One of the things I need to do is check alot of the wiring as parts of the basement has all kinds of wiring (old and new) going to various parts of the house. I want to have this cleaned up prior to building walls, insulating, etc.

As you can see, I have ALOT of work ahead of me coming up, starting with clearing out all of the clutter. My goal is to have this completed (function) by the start of the 2009-10 hockey season. That gives me about 4 and a half months of work, minus 3 days for the Nationals, minus Saturdays as Becky works.

One of the fallouts from this will be the fact that I will be adding a "mancave" to the basement. I will have 4 areas in the remodelling of the basement, a closet area for Liv's Toys, a bar/poker room, a family area and a utility room.

I have most of the Silver micromotion set completed, with Rookies. I have about 25% of the Blacks (including rookies). I have 29 of 60 Quad Jerseys, which I think is amazing since they are 3 per case.

However, of the 72 signatures, I have 6 Signatures.

The St. Louis is a short print Auto, and needed to trade nearly $100 of stuff to get it, which is fine by me. Now when I look at the list, some of the Autos should be easy to find over time, like Ben Ondrus, Ben Walter, Michel Ouellet, etc.

The dilemma is with some of the Short Prints, which include Orr, Crosby, Thornton, Iginla, Ovie, need me to continue?

Now, if the St. Louis cost me $100 in a trade, what are the rest of these going to cost me? $200, $300, $1000????

So, i'm at a crossroads in this set. Is it worth continuing to pursue? Keep in mind that this set will be for Olivia, and I want her to have something of "value" that she can do with what she wants when she grows up.

What to do. Input would be great.

Currently I'm about 67% done with the set, but most of that is from the base set and the micromotions which are fairly easy to obtain.

I'm going to focus on what might be the hardest of the subsets. The Signatures

I currently have 6 in my possession (out of 72). These are fairly hard to come by because they are generally case hits (1:432 packs).

The 6 I have are

Alexander Edler, Cam Ward, Drew Stafford, Joe Pavelski, Para Mara and Martin St. Louis.

The Edler and Ward, I bought locally in the Buffalo area

Stafford came in a bulk buy of a bunch of OPC's, including Silver Rookies of Toews, Kane, Gagner and Backstrom

Mara came in a trade with HabsfanOntario (Dale)

Pavelski came from a trade with Inferno (Kevin)

The St. Louis is a Short Print and came in a trade with a member from Hobby Insider.
