With the first half of the 2014 baseball season almost over, I have noticed that my card numbers haven't increased at all. Sure, I've had a few offers thrown out there, but nothing ever panned out. I did receive a surprise package from BSEBALLCOMMISH75 with a couple of Yastrzemski's in there, but I already had them in my collection.

While my card numbers may be stagnant, my memorabilia has gotten some incredible pieces & even better memories. I've rediscovered how much I love going to minor league games much like I did when I was younger & my family seems to be enjoying it with me as well.

Since my last blog post I've been to 3 more MiLB games. The first one was for a birthday party for one of my oldest boys' step-son who turned 10. Even though the TinCaps lost, everyone had a great time & the birthday boy came home with a BP ball, an autographed team ball from the TinCaps & the ball he threw out for the first pitch of the game! It was definitely a very memorable occasion that I hope he'll treasure for a long time!

The second game we attended was in Charleston, West Virginia where we went on Father's Day Weekend. This was my first opportunity to be able to see Michael play with the Delmarva Shorebirds. As it turned out, this would be his last series with the team before he got promoted to the Advanced A, Frederick Keys in the Orioles organization. Talk about perfect timing! My wife had ordered the tickets to the game as a surprise to me for Father's Day, which I was lucky enough for it to have fallen on one of my changeover weeks at work, so 1 vacation day gave me 7 days off. I got my Delmarva cap & Yastrzemski Shorebirds Jersey tee in the mail the morning we left, which worried me to death because I thought it wouldn't arrive in time. We get down there on Thursday & the game got postponed due to rain. On Friday, about an hour before game time the floodgates opened & it seemed as if someone was just pouring buckets of water down from the sky!

We found out later that night that they would play a doubleheader on Saturday to make up one of the games! So Saturday arrives & the weather is absolutely beautiful. I had my Shorebirds gear on as my wife & I walked around downtown Charleston waiting for game time. While down there, I was stopped a few times & asked if I was from the Salisbury, MD area or was apart of the team! We started to lose track of time & had to rush to get to the stadium when the doors opened as I didn't want to miss any BP. In doing so, I ended up locking my keys in the car! (Yes, I'm an idiot!) Anyway, my wife saved the day & allowed me to stay & watch the game while she dealt with the locksmiths to get the keys back. Back to the story... Michael made my day by signing my index card that has the signature of his father on it. So now all I need is Carl's to make the piece complete.

As he was stepping into the on-deck circle for his first at bat, I wished him luck & told him to have a great game. He thanked me as he went up to the plate & then made my day again as he hit the first of 2 HR that he would get. One more than his grandfather hit the first time I saw him play! I was hoping to be able to talk to him more after the end of the second game, but he didn't fair too well in that one & ended up leaving the field immediately following the game. I was however able to stop new Shorebird player, Tanner Rust, & talked him into giving me the official lineup card from game 1.

I was so happy that our seats were this good!

Tanner Rust grabbing the lineup card for me! Love the baseball voodoo doll hanging in the dugout!

Game 1 lineup card!

After the game, my wife & I decided it was time to head home to Indiana, since we had ended up spending not only more time than we had expected, but more money than we had planned as well. On the way home we had both agreed that Parkview Field does a much better job hosting games & entertaining fans! Which leads me to game 3!

My kids know how much I enjoy baseball & since it was actually Father's Day that they would take me to a game & boy am I glad they did! Not only was this the last game before the MiLB All-Star break, but it would be the last game for All-Star centerfielder, Mallex Smith in a TinCaps uniform. What made it even better though was the autograph session after the game! We all got several signed items, especially from Mallex.

My baby girl with Mallex Smith during the autograph session.

Meanwhile, back to more Yastrzemski memorabilia that I picked up... I haven't gotten much by way of eBay lately, but I was able to acquire one of the Shorebirds posters featuring Michael on a 2nd chance offer which I wasn't about to pass up.

Last, but certainly not least, with my sincerest thanks to LoQtus for making the short jaunt to Frederick for me to pick up my 2nd game used Yastrzemski item for my collection! I tried to get this myself, but the Keys policy doesn't allow for outside bidding to their auctions & since they don't have a team store online my acquisitions from them are next to impossible for me.

It may not be the 4th of July Shorebirds jersey that I had been saving up to bid on, but it didn't cost me as much as that would have either! Thanks again LoQtus! I owe you big time!

One final bit of Yastrzemski news that some of you may have missed. Michael was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for June 30-July 6! In which he hit for the cycle! Way to go Mike!

Well, that's it for this installment. With any luck all my blog entries from here on out will be this exciting for me!

As always special thanks go out to those that helped me add to my collection!

I know it's been awhile since my last blog posting, but there has been a lot going on in my life here lately that has taken me away from adding much of anything new to my collection. So, I thought I'd let it build up a little bit before I posted a new entry.

I'll start off with updates regarding Michael for those who may have missed it. He made his first appearance in an Orioles uniform in ST when they played the Red Sox, going in as a pinch-runner & scored the first run for the O's that game. Carl was in attendance, so it made for a nice reunion for the two of them.

Getty Images

And while he did stay on the O's roster until just a few days before Opening Day, I knew it was too early for him to make the big club. So, he started the 2014 season for the Delmarva Shorebirds, where he currently leads the team in Runs & RBI. With his continued hard work & success, I see him moving up to at least the Advanced A, Frederick Keys, team at some point this season. I am still looking to get my first piece of memorabilia of his from Delmarva.

I am also happy to report that I did finally reach Memorabilia SuperCollector status for my Yastrzemski family collection! My thread can be found here:
http://www.sportscardforum.com/threa...0#post13349320

Still haven't heard anything back from my last submission for Baseball SuperCollector status as of yet, but I am still hopeful.

I did make a few new acquisitions from eBay since my last blog. Here are the newest pieces to my collection:

1964 Topps Venezuelan #182 Sox Sockers Yastrzemski / Schilling

2013 Elite Extra Edition Mike Yastrzemski auto redemptions #/740, #/200, #/100 & die-cuts #/200, #/100

Also picked up this nice lot of 22 '76-'78 discs of Yastrzemski, Fisk & Perez. I only needed 7 of the Yastrzemski's, but for $.50 apiece I couldn't pass them up.

Also made a couple of CC deals here on SCF for a pair of Yaz cards.

This may be my last blog posting for a while again, as we are looking to move closer to where I work so I don't have to deal with my 12 hour days lasting 15 hours anymore. But with any luck, we'll find a place with enough room for me to actually have a room to display my collection a little better.

I also added another autographed baseball to my collection, but haven't taken any pics of it yet. My family & I attended a TinCaps game Opening Week & I was fortunate enough to get a foul ball during the game & had the entire roster sign it that night after the game. I also was given a ticket from a coworker that won a set of 4 from work to attend last nights game. Came home empty handed when it came to memorabilia from the game. Thought I was going to get a grand slam ball, but it fell about 10 feet short of me staying in the field of play. Oh well, it was a great game & even better on Jackie Robinson Day! Even though the high temperature here didn't reach Jackie's number, baseball is baseball & I'll never pass up going to a game on an off day from work!

Well, that's just about it for this edition. As always, very special thanks go out to those that helped me add to my collection:
scottkoz20 - 2009 SP Legendary Cuts #142 Carl Yastrzemski #/550

Take care,

Well, I for one am ready for Spring Training to start! I'm ready for Winter to be over with so I can start enjoying baseball again!

As I figured in my last blog post, December & January were not the most productive when it came to adding to my collection or to hearing any news about where Michael is going to start the 2014 season for Baltimore. So I guess I'll just jump right into what this Winter has brought me, other than more snow than I wanted.

I started off in December by acquiring 2 very nice examples of JD McCarthy postcards of Carl off of eBay.

Even though neither one have been postmarked to determine their true age, I was still more than happy to add them to my memorabilia collection.

The next week saw the completion of my collection of Mike's cards as I found a guy that specializes in the older minor league releases & selling them as singles rather than in set form. This helped me out a bunch as the 1986 Barons Team set usually goes in the range of $30-$50. I was able to pick up the single for under a couple bucks. Definitely a win! I also managed to pick up a pair of the discs from the 70's that I just couldn't pass up on for the price on the Bay.

Christmas brought me a very nice surprise, as my wife added to my Yastrzemski wardrobe with a new shirt of Carl. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a chance to get any pics of it yet to show it off. I'm still undecided on whether or not I'm going to wear it! I also got a nice little Christmas package in from the Commish containing a 2004 Leaf Sportscaster Insert #/45 that I needed!

January provided more & more snow, which I could really have done without. The snow emergencies that were declared really put a damper on my funding to be able to add much. But I was able to find a great deal on a pair of autographs on an item that I didn't have.

Not only was the box for the tape signed, but the tape itself was signed as well. Now I just need to dig an old VHS player out of storage to be able to watch the tape!

January also brought the first major cards of Michael from the Elite Extra Edition release from Panini. (So much for me having 100% of his cards anymore!) Not to mention the fact that he now has a 1/1 out there somewhere! I was able to pick up one of the redemption cards for the Aspirations auto #/100, which I am anxiously awaiting to get back!

One more eBay win of a 1964 Topps League Leader card of Carl that I picked up for $1.10 delivered was the extent of the purchases that I made for the first month of the year!

And to finish off the month, another surprise package that showed up in my mailbox: The Bloodlines Insert from 2013 EEE!

And, there you have it. Not too bad considering Mother Nature has been beating us up here in NE Indiana this Winter!

As always, special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my collection!
BSEBALLCOMMISH75 - 2004 Leaf Sportscaster Insert #8 Carl Yastrzemski #/45, 2013 EEE Bloodlines #1 Carl Yastrzemski / Mike Yastrzemski

SuperCollector status: Carl 15.9%, Mike 100% & Michael 26.3%

Take care,

This was a rather slow month for adding anything new to my PC, but with the holidays upon us my budget isn't really giving me much leeway to spend that much right now.

Carl made his once a year public signing in Massachusetts this month & for another year I was unable to make the trip up there from Indiana. I didn't even bother contacting his agent again this year to ask if he thought Carl would sign the one item in my collection that I really want his signature on. I believe that it's something that I'm just going to have to ask for in person.

The highlight for the month for me was that I got to add at least one piece from all three Yastrzemski's, so even though I didn't bring in much, it was definitely a win for me! So without further ado, here's this months haul...

This first item was an eBay win of an autograph of Mike. Fortunately it was listed as a BIN, so I didn't have to sweat out getting outbid if I had to work or not. This makes my third signed item by him & my first one certified by JSA.

Since my funds were short, I was ecstatic to be able to add an item via the card cash that I have accumulated here on SCF. My only deal on the site for the month yielded the 2011 Limited Greats /299 #23 Carl Yastrzemski card! It was even better since this one card did bump me up another percentage point in my quest for SuperCollector status!

The final item of the month was another BIN on eBay that gave me some redemption as I was too late to get the only other one that I have seen pop up. That one was also a BIN. but someone grabbed it seconds before I clicked on the button to purchase it. I'm not complaining though, as I got mine for a few bucks cheaper! These SGA items can really be a pain to get, not only do they not come up that often, but quite a few exceed my budget as well.

And, there you have it. I may end up taking a month off as I'm not sure if I'll have much to report at all for December, as Christmas for the family will have to come first....Dang it all! :sign0020:

As always, special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my collection!
lil5up3rman - 2011 Limited Greats /299 #23 Carl Yastrzemski

SuperCollector status: Carl 15.3%, Mike 77.8% & Michael 100%

Happy Holidays everyone!

Take care,

Well, The 2013 MLB season is officially over & I must wish a very enthusiastic congratulations to the Boston Red Sox for winning the World Series this year! Boston fan favorite & only remaining player from the 2004 World Series championship team, David Ortiz was named MVP of the series. He batted .688 (11 for 16) with two homers, six RBIs and eight walks, as well as posting the 2nd highest OBP in series history at .760.

It was nice to see Carl back out there to throw out the first pitch in game 1! I only wish I had been there...

He's still got it after all these years!

I'd like to be able to tell you that it was a very busy month as far as adding to my collection, but this just wasn't the case. I was able to make a couple of deals here on SCF though. The first one was for a nice pair of serial numbered cards including the 2005 Donruss Elite Turn of the Century 154 Carl Yastrzemski & a 2008 UD Heroes Emerald 187 Carl Yastrzemski / Carlton Fisk / Wade Boggs. The second one was for the 1982 Permagraphic Credit Cards #13 Carl Yastrzemski, a 2013 Panini Cooperstown Induction #7 Carl Yastrzemski & a 2013 Panini Golden Age Playing Cards #49 Carl Yastrzemski.

I was also able to make a couple of eBay purchases this month. The first one was for the 1977 Topps Venezuelan Sticker #176 Carl Yastrzemski. Even though it wasn't in the best condition, I did get a good deal on this hard to find addition.

The second auction win was for one of the SGA cards that was given out at the game at Fenway after the presentation of Carl's statue outside on September 22nd. Again, I wish I had been there.

Sometimes living in the Midwest is really discouraging when everything having to do with Yastrzemski happens in the New England area.

I also found out this month that I have to keep working to obtain SuperCollector status for my Yastrzemski collection. I don't know if it's because my percentage of serial numbered, game-used or autographed cards of Carl's is sort of low compared to the rest of it. If that is the case, then this achievement will take me a lot longer than I thought it would.

I've never been drawn to any of these types of pieces unless I can get them for a great deal. Most of all of the serial numbered cards are nothing but parallels of other cards. The whole controversy over game-used cards with either fake jerseys being sold to the card companies, or the scammers out there that like to put in outrageous patches just to try & get more money for the cards really drove me away from trying to obtain them. Which brings me to autographed cards. Since Carl is a member of the HOF, any of his certified autographed cards sell for quite a bit of money. For the kind of money that it costs for one of these signed cards, I can usually get a really nice piece of memorabilia signed by him, which to me means more.

I have always worked towards obtaining the hard to find or obscure pieces to add to my collection, hence the foreign release issue & the 1-day SGA cards that I added this month.

So anyway, I am still waiting to hear about my application for the Memorabilia SuperCollector status. With any luck I can achieve this one! (Crossing my fingers!)

As always, a very special thanks go out to those who helped add to my collection this month!
Scobes - 2005 Donruss Elite Turn of the Century 154 Carl Yastrzemski, 2008 UD Heroes Emerald 187 Carl Yastrzemski / Carlton Fisk / Wade Boggs

SuperCollector status: Carl 15.2%, Mike 77.8% & Michael 100%

Well, that's it for this month.

Take care,

Well, the 2013 MLB regular season is over & if you'd have told me six months ago that the Red Sox would not only make the postseason, but have the best record in the American League, I'd have called you a dreamer. But here we are & that's exactly where we stand going from worst to first just like they did back when Carl & the '67 Sox had their Impossible Dream season. Of course, sitting right across from them in the National League with the exact same record is the St. Louis Cardinals, which could set the stage for a serious case of deja vu. I just hope 2013 will be more favorable for Boston.

And while the month of my 42nd birthday may not have brought in many new pieces to add to my collection, it did see a "first" for me, but I'll get to that here in a little bit.

The month started off great as my wife & kids treated me to a baseball game where the Fort Wayne Tincaps took on the Bowling Green Hot Rods & won the Midwest League Quarterfinals Series! Before the game my daughter sweet-talked one of the Hot Rods pitchers for a bp ball & then proceeded to get it signed by a couple of the Tincaps players, Diego Goris & Mallex Smith.

Of course she didn't stop there, she sweet-talked the players into letting her get back to the bullpen where former MLB player, Burt Hooten, was getting his pitchers ready for the game & got him to sign the ball too!

Of course the best part was getting to enjoy the game with the most important people in my life!

After watching the game & the fireworks that followed, I finally got to take a well deserved break from work, getting 10 days off to celebrate not only my birthday, but my 20th wedding anniversary as well. But, enough about that & on to this months acquisitions...

I did find a great deal while surfing the "Bay" this month & I picked this little beauty up for under a buck!

I believe this was actually an SGA from his final game in Boston. $.99 for a 30 year old pennant complete with the original 5x7 photo still intact was definitely a win for my PC! Unfortunately, this was my only auction win of the month.

The next piece came as such as surprise that I still can't believe it fell into my lap the way it did. While attending the minor league game earlier in the month, we visited the teams gift shop & saw all of the different merchandise there & it got me to thinking about what items Aberdeen might available to buy that aren't listed on their website. So I sent several emails to Aberdeen & finally got in contact with someone there to see what all they had. I asked about everything I could think of, programs, yearbooks, media guides, cracked bats, jerseys, etc. For every email I sent I hit a brick wall. Since there season was over everything was already gone. I was informed that any game used item of his went the same day it was made available. I was really bummed out. I thanked them in each & every email for their time & for trying to help me.

A few days later I get a surprise email back from my contact there. I was informed that they did indeed have a piece of Michaels that had been forgotten about. During the 4th of July day game, they wore caps with a stars & stripes logo on it. They were all auctioned off after the game & the payment for the cap that Michael wore didn't go through so it never got shipped. It was then offered to me for less than what the bidding started at, so I jumped on it.

The best part was that it actually showed up on my birthday! Not only did I add one more autographed piece to my collection, but my first game used piece! With any luck this will not be the last!

I also did make one trade here on SCF during the month with a very good friend. I was able to knock off a few cards from his wantlist & he sent me a piece from his own collection.

I just love unexpected surprises! I say that because he never ends up telling me what he is sending, but he never fails to please!

I was also given one more reason to want to make a road trip to Boston this month as the Red Sox finally immortalized Carl outside of Fenway with a bronze statue of him outside.

I only wish I could've been there with Dewey, Yaz & Jim!

The only thing that I was hoping to report this month that I didn't get to was my official SuperCollector status here on SCF. For anyone that has been following my blog entries on here might know, I finally hit the percentage of cards needed to apply for SuperCollector. They must either have been really busy this month or my application got lost somewhere as I never heard back from anyone about it. I even inquired a few weeks in & still got no response. Perhaps I'll try my hand at applying for the Memorabilia SuperCollector now that I have my first piece of game used memorabilia.

My percentage actually dropped a point this month as I didn't add any new cards to my PC but several were added to the checklist in the Inventory Manager. Here is where I stand:
SuperCollector status: Carl - 15%, Mike - 77.8%, Michael - 100%

Special Thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my PC this month:

BSEBALLCOMMISH75 - 2010 Sports Collector's Digest magazine with Carl on the cover

Well, that's it for this month!

Take care,

This was a very big month for not only my collection but for being a Yastrzemski fan as well! Michael was named Minor League Offensive Player of the Month for the Orioles organization & was selected for the 2013 New York-Penn All-Star Game! At the time of this writing his Aberdeen Ironbirds sit a half game up of Brooklyn for the lead in their division. I so wish that I lived closer to be able to attend some games. On September 3rd, the first 873 fans to Ripken Field will receive a Mike Yastrzemski Ironbirds T-shirt! If anyone reading this happens to attend, I would gladly pay for one of these!

As far as adding to my collection, August started off with a bang thanks to the National. My one day at the show yeilded 95 total Yastrzemski pieces! Including this large lot of 60 pieces that was sold as a Yastrzemski grab bag!

Most of the "regular" cards I already had, but I was thrilled by the old postcards that I have to track down now since there was no year or anything on the back of them! Up next is a nice 3 piece lot that I picked up from another dealer at the show which includes the '69 Topps Stamps Red Sox Team Booklet, a 1966 Topps LL card & a 1970 Topps Poster of Don Mincher! That's right, I said Don Mincher! Now the large color head shot is of Don, but the small black & white action shot is of Carl. Carl's #8 can be seen on the back of the jersey & not Don's #5 that he wore for his one season in Seattle. This is actually an unrecognized, uncorrected error that was pointed out to me a while back.

This next shot is of everything else I picked up from various dealers at the show, with the exception of the 2006 Allen & Ginter that BSEBALLCOMMISH75 picked up for me!

Lord knows I spent more than I probably should have at the National, but this next shot is what made it all worth while!

That's me, LoQtus, doniceage & BSEBALLCOMMISH75! Couldn't ask for a better company at the show than these guys! Of course it wouldn't have been a worthwhile trip to Chicago without going to Wrigley! Of course the Cubs lost, but LoQtus, Commish & my wife all got to cross this off their "bucket" lists.

Here's a shot of the Commish with his first Official Wrigley beer!

LoQtus at the statue of Harry!

And one final pic from Wrigley, the Mrs. & I! Nobody freak out or anything with me in a Cubs hat, I wear one every time I go there out of respect for my grandmother who was a die-hard Cubs fan!

My wife was such a trooper throughout the entire weekend, but by the end of the game she was hurting something awful. After all was said & done when we were on our way home, she asked if we were going to Cleveland next year though! I love my wife!

Now ordinarily that would be a great month in itself, but it didn't end there. Even though I didn't make a single trade on SCF I was able to find some great deals on eBay which included a 4x6 autographed picture of Michael at the plate for the Ironbirds.

I also picked up one of the programs from the 2013 New York-Penn All-Star Game, which incidentally Michael & the American League won! Other eBay wins included a 5 card lot of Carl (all of which I needed), the 1975 Kellogg's (which completed my needs for that brand), a 2007 Topps Sterling white suede #/50 & a 2009 Topps Legendary Letters Comemorative Patch card (only 9 more of those to finish his name!)

To top off all of that, since I was so close to getting the number of Carl's cards needed to reach the 15% required to apply for SuperCollector status here on SCF, my wife went & ordered me a 20 card lot from COMC to allow me to submit my application. She also found one of the minor league cards that I still needed of Mike from there as well! Have I mentioned how much I love my wife?

So with a little bit of luck, next month I'll be able to report that I am an Official SuperCollector! That will definitely make for a nice 42nd birthday gift! Keep your fingers crossed!

Special Thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my PC this month:
My wife - for either buying or allowing me to buy everything else!

Well, that's it for this month!

Well, this month certainly had more than it's fair share of ups & downs! It started off on a good note, as Michael started his career with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. In his first 29 games, he is batting .337, with 2 HR, 12 RBI & 4 SB.

It continued to improve when I made a quick trade here for a 2002 Topps Tribute Yastrzemski Memorable Materials game used card & it got even better when I got an incredible deal on an autographed Boston Globe newspaper of Carl!

The second week started off great with another trade, this time for a 2009 Sweet Spot Carl Yastrzemski / Fergie Jenkins dual game used card & an even sweeter deal on an autographed photo of Carl from his final game at Fenway!

By the third week it started to go down hill, as I hadn't received the autographed newspaper & had to file a report with eBay. I also had learned that a good friend of mine, spuds1961, had to back out of attending the Nationals this year in Chicago due to health reasons.

Because of his backing out, I had a couple more Cubs tickets that were going to go unused. I already had mine when I had to back out due to a lack of funds. When I brought this up to my wife, she immediately said that we should make a trip up to attend the game since the money had already been spent. So, I did some figuring, & it was feasible to at least attend the game. Then she brought up about how we should just try & attend the National for at least one day & make a mini vacation out of it. Well...this took some doing, but I called in some favors & even though I won't have much money at all for the show, we'll still be able to attend. So this brought my spirits up some, but I still wish that spuds1961 would've been healthy enough to attend.

This brings us to the final week of the month & still no autographed newspaper or word from the seller, so I finally had to request a refund. Low & behold, I almost immediately hear back from the seller on how they will issue me a refund. Like they had a choice? I'm pretty sure that between eBay & Paypal that I would've gotten my money back. I did win one more auction, this time for a 2013 Aberdeen Ironbirds Choice team set with Michael.

Finally, yesterday I got a visit from BSEBALLCOMMISH75 & LoQtus while they were on there way to Chicago for the National. They brought me a nice little stack of Yastrzemski cards & we got to discuss our gameplan a little bit on how we were going to tackle the National & the Cubs game. I seriously can't wait!

Well, June sure had it's share of ups & downs to end Michael's college career. It started off really nice with him not only winning Vanderbilt's Student/Athlete of the Month award, but he was also named MVP of the Nashville Regionals! It continued to improve when he was selected by the Orioles in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB draft. As they say, "All good things must come to an end" though, & the Commodores were knocked out of the Super-Regionals by Louisville, which ended their record-setting season, preventing them from going to Omaha for a chance to win the CWS. Hopefully it will be a little easier for me to get items of his now that he is playing for the Aberdeen Ironbirds!

This month was actually the exact opposite from May when it came to acquiring new pieces fro my PC, as everything came from deals here on SCF & Father's Day gifts rather than eBay. It started off with a quick trade for a 2007 SP Legendary Cuts When It Was A Game Memorabilia card.

The second week rolled around & I made another trade on here for a 2012 Panini Prizm Refractor of Carl & ended with Father's Day gifts from my wife & kids. I must have been a great dad this past year as I was extremely happy to receive a 2013 Vanderbilt Baseball Fact Book that features Michael on the cover.

I had tried picking one of these up a few months back, but hesitated to hit the "Buy It Now" option & it ended up getting away from me for over 3 times the amount of the BIN price. I was so excited to see this, as I thought I wouldn't get another chance at one since they are printed in rather small quantities.

I was then knocked out to see my next gift for Father's Day, which they really went above & beyond....

A 1968 Topps Deckle Proof Blue Ink version. This was definitely the icing on the cake as these are rather hard to come by & it is in absolutely beautiful condition!

One week later I made my final deal here on SCF for a 1968 Topps AL RBI Leaders card with Yaz, Killebrew & Frank Robinson.

All in all it was a great month for the PC!

May was an exciting month to be a Yastrzemski fan! Vanderbilt's regular season came to a close this month, but not before the Commodores achieved not only their best record in school history (48-7), but they also set a new SEC wins record by going 26-3. Michael led the team in the SEC games this season batting .407 (.333 - for the season). He also joined fellow teammate, Tony Kemp, by being selected to the All-SEC first team & All-Defensive team. Here's hoping that they can win it all in Omaha! At the time of this posting they are up 5-4 in the 5th thanks to Michael's 2-RBI double & scoring the go ahead run from a SH from Conrad Gregor! I can't wait to see how the young Yaz does in the draft this year! Between that & the fact that the Red Sox are still in first place in the AL East, it's been a really good month!

Anyway, on to the new additions to my PC this month! Unfortunately, I didn't make a single trade this month on SCF, which hasn't happened since my return to the hobby back in October, 2011. Not to worry though, I did make a few purchases off the Bay!

There was a distinct pattern this month as far as my spending went, with the first purchase being the cheapest on my pocketbook & steadily increasing. To start it off, I picked up the 2012 Panini Golden Age card of Carl for a whopping $0.21 with free shipping! There was a little scare as the tracking number that they provided was for a different item that they sold, but the card did eventually arrive safe & sound.

The second was a nice little oddball from Monarch Corona Printing that they produced in 2012. Only 200 of these little beauties were created, with one of the single card auctions reaching $51.67. Fortunately for me I didn't get into that bidding war & picked mine up for a much more modest $2.99 with free shipping.

My next purchase brought in the only addition to my PC of Mike Yastrzemski this month. His first card from his minor league career out of the 1984 TCMA Durham Bulls team set. Which I picked up the entire set for under $10. This was also the last card purchase of the month for me as well.

About midway through May I found a sweet deal on a lot of 5 sports magazines all depicting Carl on the covers from 1964-1982. Got them all for $10 with free shipping! This one is my favorite of the lot, probably because of the title, "The Old Masters".

The final purchase was of the 1964 Red Sox Team Issue 7x9 of Carl. It has a pinhole at the top & some residue from being in someone's old photo album, but for under $12 delivered I can't complain. It's not like these are all that easy to come by anymore.

So basically, for under the cost of 2 retail boxes from the local Walmart which would've yielded me probably nothing for my PC, I think I did rather well surfing the Bay this month!

SuperCollector status: Carl - 12.9%, Mike - 66.7%, Michael - 100%

That's it for this month!

Take care,

Well, if someone had told me at the beginning of the month that Boston would have the best record in the MLB at the end of the month, I'd have thought that to be a rather good April Fools Day joke! But that's exactly where they are as we head into May. What a turnaround from last season. Here's hoping that they can keep this up as the season progresses!

Meanwhile, in Nashville, Michael & the Commodores went 14-2 this month to put their record at 39-6 going into the final month of their season. Michael went 24/62 (.387), scoring 12 runs while driving in 14 RBI & ended the month with an 8 game hitting streak. With only 11 games left to play in his Senior season, it's not looking promising on me getting down there to see him play & I ended up losing the only auction I found to add a new item of his for my PC this month.

This was a rather slow month for my PC, as I only made one trade on SCF at the very beginning of April for a pair of Carl's releases. The 2008 Donruss Legends Of Sport #80 & the 2010 Topps Blue Back #44.

Week #2 brought in the only new item of Mike's for the month, but it was one that I was really happy to finally get. It is an 8x10 black & white press photo of him in a White Sox uniform in which he appears to be leading off of first. This must have been from a exhibition game when he was playing for Birmingham as it is dated from 1986. I only wish that I could clearly make out the number on the uniform so I could find one for myself. I had been watching this particular item for several months as the seller kept relisting it for sale for nearly $30. My patience paid off as they posted it for under $10 & I snagged it right away!

The week also brought in an unexpected package from a very good friend that added the 1986 Red Sox Greats TCMA #9 card of Carl as well.

Week #3 brought in a rather puzzling pack of cards from an eBay win.

Now I have only seen these released for the Yankees & Red Sox & what makes this so mysterious is the cards that are inside. There are various releases from both 2007 & 2008 UD products including the 2007 SP Legendary Cuts & the 2007 Masterpieces sets. This may not sound like much, but the Legendary Cuts cards inside all have a silver foil around the player photo on the front instead of the gold. While the Masterpieces have a smooth glossy finish instead of the textured look & feel. After doing quite a bit of research on these, I cannot find any information as to why UD made these changes or how many of these were made this way. I did end up pulling the Yastrzemski from both of the sets from this one pack though, so I was extremely happy about that! If anyone has any additional information on these packs or cards, please feel free to share!

The final week of the month brought in my most expensive purchase. An eBay auction win for a 1964 Topps Venezuelan League Leader card featuring Yaz, Kaline & Rollins. It's not perfect, as these rare releases never are, but for what it is, I think it's in really nice shape. Lord knows I've seen much worse from the Venezuelans!

As always, very special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my PC this month:

silence7777777 - 2008 Donruss Legends Of Sport #80 & 2010 Topps Blue Back #44
BSEBALLCOMMISH75 - 1986 Red Sox Greats TCMA #9

eBay win #1 - 1986 8x10 black & white press photo of Mike Yastrzemski

eBay win #2 - 2008 UD Baseball Card Fan Pack Boston Red Sox Edition

eBay win #3 - 1964 Topps Venezuelan #8

SuperCollector status: Carl - 12.8%, Mike - 55.6%, Michael - 100%

That's all for this month!

Take care,

Well, Spring is officially here & Major League Baseball has started for the season! Although I'm still more anxious to get home from work to read the box scores on how Michael is doing down in Nashville. Unfortunately his average has dropped some this month as he's now batting .297 for the season & he did commit his first error of the season. But his power & speed are improving as he added another HR, triple, 6 doubles & 5 stolen bases this month. I was also fortunate enough to be home to listen to & later watch the highlight from the triple steal game! Michael was up to bat during the play & he didn't give anything away to the opposing pitcher or catcher. He took one for the team by staying in the batter's box, getting knocked over by his teammate stealing home! Seeing that made up for the fact that I didn't get to add any of his memorabilia this month.

March started off quickly for me though as the first week brought in the 1963 Topps Peel-Off (Instruction back) which is in beautiful shape! Followed soon thereafter by a trade on SCF for a 2010 MacFarlane Cooperstown Collection variant figure of Carl.

The second week was busy with a pair of deals on SCF, one for the 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame Stan Musial/Ralph Kiner/Carl Yastrzemski #YKM 24/50 & the second for the 2013 Topps Heritage Baseball Flashbacks #BFCY. As well as an eBay purchase for the 2005 Sweet Spot Classic Silver #11 78/100.

Week three started off by taking me to a live auction that yielded an unexpected bonus that I didn't discover until I made it back home. It was the 1978 Pepsi #39 complete panel. It was a very nice surprise hidden at the bottom of a box full of packs of soft sleeves with around 20 others from that set. A pair of eBay wins ended out the week bringing in the 1967 Coke Red Sox cap #R2

And this little beauty, a Louisville Slugger bat pen from the 1960's!

The final week of the month saw one final eBay win for me for one of Mike's minor league team sets. The 1987 ProCards Hawaii Islanders #1! I figured it had been a while since I picked up anything of Mike's, so he was overdue!

Now, I really would have loved to have been able to tell you that on the final day of the month that I won an auction for the 1977 Topps Venezuelan Sticker issue of Carl, but unfortunately I had to leave for work before the auction ended & of course I got outbid! Oh well, you can't win them all! Besides, I think this was a very good month for me with a nice mixture of cards & memorabilia.

As always, very special thanks go out to the following for helping me add to my PC this month:
LoQtus - 2010 MacFarlane Cooperstown Collection variant figure Carl Yastrzemski
Icrackwax - 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame Stan Musial/Ralph Kiner/Carl Yastrzemski #YKM 24/50

What an amazing month this was for my collection! It also meant the start of the 2013 Baseball season for Vanderbilt University! Michael started his final season with the Commodores with a respectable stat line going 11 for 32 (.344), 9-R, 9-RBI, 6-BB, 4-K, 7-SB, 1-CS, 2-HBP, 0-ERR, 1-2B, 1-3B, 1-HR, 1-SH & 3-SF. He definitely did better than I did for the month when it came to winning auctions as I went 5 for 16 (.313).

The first week quickly brought in a nice eBay win for a 1980's style Red Sox jersey.

Week #2 was when the stars aligned & everything came together very nicely. It started with a nice eBay Yaz 12 piece lot win & attending my first show since the National back in 2004. Not only did I get to finally meet a fellow member of SCF, BSEBALLCOMMISH75, but I picked up several other PC cards. (Full details are listed in my show edition blog post: http://www.sportscardforum.com/entri...ne-IN-02-10-13 ) The very next day I received an unexpected package in the mail from the Vanderbilt Athletic Department which contained one of their new 2013 Baseball schedule posters that was signed by the entire team! The week ended with the start of their season!

Week #3 brought in a pair of eBay wins including 3 different 2002 Topps American Pie inserts & an autographed mini batting helmet signed by Carl. It also brought in a card from my only deal from SCF for the month, which was the 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Black Mini.

The final week of the month brought in one final eBay win, which was a very rare oddball piece. It is a stamp featuring the 1975 Topps card, but as far as my research has gone, I can't find any record of Topps producing such a release.

This was the first card show that I've been to in close to a decade & even though it was just a small show it reminded me how much fun I used to have going to them. I miss the days when the little town I live in used to have monthly shows. What made this one even better than any other was getting the opportunity to meet a fellow member of SCF. That member was BSEBALLCOMMISH75. We've done a few trades already on the site & have already made plans to attend the National this coming July in Chicago.

This visit just gave us a chance to trade face to face, which is how this hobby all started for me some 35 years ago.

He got the added bonus of making his table cost back from the show plus some. He brought me some well needed pieces for my PC as well. Including the following:
1993 Ted Williams Card Company #7
1995 Jimmy Dean All Time Greats #6
2008 Upper Deck Heroes Charcoal #187
2008 Upper Deck Heroes Emerald #177
Plus an added bonus Carl Yastrzemski Highlight Reel DVD

I also walked the tables & picked up the following:
1964 Topps Sox Sockers #182
1975 Topps Mini #205
1993 Spectrum Diamon Club #1
2005 Donruss Diamond King #HH34
2010 Topps Cards Your Mother Threw Out #CMT9

Thanks for inviting me Stuart! I had a great time!

It did put me one more percentage point higher towards reaching my goal as a SuperCollector of Yaz, now sitting at 12.4%

Thanks for the read!

Well, the new year is under way & I already can't wait for Spring training games to start up! Although if my work schedule doesn't let up I won't get to enjoy much baseball at all this year. Through the first month I was only able to avoid making the hour plus drive to work for 4 out of the 31 days. It sure did put a damper on adding much to the PC this month.

In fact the entire first half of the month saw no new incoming pieces at all. It wasn't until the 3rd week of the month when I finally was able to get a couple deals done on the site which included 2 of Carl's 2009 Topps Triple Threads cards #/1350 & #/525 & his 2003 Topps Gallery Heritage card.

The fourth week brought in one more from another deal here on SCF which included a 2009 Topps Legends Commemorative Patch card. It was also at the end of this week that I had discovered that Michael was going to be at a public signing at Vanderbilt. I didn't find out about it until that morning when I got home from work & the 7-8 hour drive after my 12 hour shift wouldn't have added up all that well for me. I did make a shout out to some fellow members here on the site, but everyone in the area was too busy to make it over there to get me a signature on one of Vandy's new 2013 Baseball schedule posters featuring Michael. It was worth the shot to ask though & I do thank them for their time to get back with me about it!

The final week saw one deal here & one on eBay. From here, I picked up the 2005 Artifacts AL/NL Artifacts jersey card. My eBay purchase was a little pricey, but it wasn't definitely something that you don't see every day.

It's a sealed bottle of wine! The image on the back of the bottle is engraved into the glass commemorating Carl's Triple Crown year. The signature isn't the greatest anymore, but it is authentic. This one actually got a sour response from my wife, but I figured since I had worked so many hours this month, I was entitled to splurge a little on myself. It's not like it cost as much as the new Ipod touch that I had bought for her earlier in the month!

The seller actually sent me a message afterwards wanting more money for shipping it to me because they didn't realize that the USPS wouldn't accept such items & they had to send it UPS. It's not like this is a new policy from them! I didn't quite understand what they expected though as they asked me to split the $20 shipping fee with them & I had already paid $10 that was included from the auction. Apparently they wanted more that the 50/50 split!

I would've thought about doing it, if it wasn't for the fact that another bidder took me right to my max bid & then stopped. They had to know they reached my max as their bid was only $.24 less than what the bid was at when they stopped! I really dislike shill bidders!

I did try adding a few other rare items to my PC, but snipers prevented me from getting them. Oh well, that just leaves me with more money for the National in August! 178 days to go & counting!
