Being that i am only 19 years old, i have no clue what collecting was like 10-15 years ago. All i can do is read the "older" guys blogs about what the hype was like back in 1989 or 1995 etc.. Though i do know it has come a LONG way from just 10 years ago let along 20 years. I remember about 4 or 5 years ago when i got into collecting big time, pulling that jersey card was huge. Im sure it was for everyone at some point. Now we all get ticked off when we pull that stupid single swatch of some mediocre player. Now it is all about the high end logo man on card 1/1 auto. Thats why in my opinion, products like prestige and threads better change real fast, because i know a lot of people are getting real fed up with pulling that singal jersey card in a $90 box. But, my question is, what will the hobby be like in 20 years? Will our hobby even be around? Which companies will still be in business? Are we going to see 2030 Topps Triple Threads or 2030 exquisite? Eventually I think the companies are going to have to come up with something different. Im not saying get rid of memorabilia cards, but there is going to have to be something new. UD started going down the right path with the shadowbox card. Thats a good start, but they have to keep moving foward. So leave a comment about what you think will happen or some ideas for the future. In honor of this debate, i will provide a prize to the best answer i choose (must be at least 10 responses). The prize will be one memorabilia or auto card (choices TBD after i pick winner). So leave your response!!

I remember when i found out Panini bought out Donruss I thought we were going to see a whole new line of products. Though, i dont think anyone really knew what to expect. My own local card shop owner did not even know. I think now after almost a year of product, it seems to be a 50/50 response. Some seem to like what they have done and some seem to feel they have not done anything. If you really look at it they have not changed a thing, other than getting their NBA and NHL license. They have only added one or two "new" products (Epix, Crowne Royal, etc) I dont like how they use the same product for their basketball products. I really wish they would come up with a whole new line for each sport, other than a few products like the prestige or national treasures. Also, they need better variety and less of the same garbage. There is no reason for Rookies and stars, threads, gridiron gear, epix, elite, and classics. Pick the best two, maybe three and leave it there. There just isnt any value in products like threads and epix and rookies and stars. It is all basically the same product with a slight difference in design. I would stick with prestige, classics, and gridiron gear for the "mid-end" products. Now, for the positive, the higher end stuff. I LOVE absolute every year, from the great patches, tools of the trade, all the way to just the packageing. Its just a fun product to open. I know alot of people hate the foil board cards or how it never seems to change, but the foil and design is what makes absolute every year. Same goes for Limited and Certified, it is a "fan favorite" every year and so far panini has done well with both. Now for National Treasures football last year, i will agree it was a downgrade. It really did look like a $400 box of threads. And they HAVE to stop with the sticker autos on NT. It is just unacceptable. If UD can get all on card for Exquisite and Topps can for their amazing looking upcoming Topps Five Star football, then theres no reason Panini can't do it either. Overall, I like what they have done, but there is still PLENTY of room for improvement. Hopefully they use their 2 new licenses to their advantage and wisely. I love the new Certified Hockey and it seems a lot of people do. Keep it up Panini, its a tough market out there for cards and its only bound to get tougher.
