Mock Draft Fever is upon us! Here are the results of a Yahoo 12-team Roto Mock Draft I did this evening. I didn't think much of it at the time, but upon reviewing the results, I really hope I do as well in a "real" draft. I drafted from the # 4 position:

1. Miguel Cabrera (Det - 1B) - Pujols, Kemp, Bautista, to answer your question.
2. Curtis Granderson (NYY - OF) - He hasn't peaked yet.
3. Tim Lincecum (SF - SP) - Liked King Felix here, but Lincecum's ratios win out.
4. Mike Napoli (Tex - C,1B) - Don't usually go Catcher early, but power and avg. work at any position.
5. Michael Bourn (Atl - OF) - Reached a bit for speed and balance.
6. Asdrubal Cabrera (Cle - SS) - More balanced pick than Rollins here.
7. Ian Kennedy (Ari - SP) - Solid ace for a 2nd starter.
8. Matt Moore (TB - RP) - Hype pick, but I think it pays off.
9. Corey Hart (Mil - OF) - Starting to trust him again after 2 good seasons.
10. Dustin Ackley (Sea - 2B) - Justifies taking Bourn over Zobrist, Utley, Phillips.
11. David Freese (StL - 3B) - Justifies taking Lincecum rather than Wright, Zimmerman
12. Nick Swisher (NYY - 1B,OF) - Power and flexibility in 1st Utility spot.
13. Jordan Walden (LAA - RP) - I usually go earlier for my first closer,
14. Yoenis Céspedes (Oak - OF) - Major upside gamble in 2nd Utility spot.
15. Emilio Bonifacio (Mia - 3B,SS,OF) - 40 SB and 3 positions in 15th round? Yes, please!
16. Chris Sale (CWS - RP) - I love low-ratio, high K RPs at this point in the draft.
17. Kelly Johnson (Tor - 2B) - Jays offense looks potent, nice power option on the bench.
18. Jonny Venters (Atl - RP) - Would have preferred a 3rd closer, but will settle for Kimbrel insurance,
19. Johan Santana (NYM - SP) - Let's see what he can do.
20. Gavin Floyd (CWS - SP) - Decent Ks this late, completely disposable for a hot waiver pickup.
21. Ricky Nolasco (Mia - SP) - Marlins will win a lot of games early this year.
22. Addison Reed (CWS - RP) - Could lead this team in Saves.
23. Tyler Clippard (Was - RP) - Solid contributor in 3 categories.

Of course, no league is won on draft day, but I thought this team had a nice, balanced feel to it. I waited too long on closers, but rather than punting Saves, I pooched - hoping for 4 or 5 points worth of Saves, while filling the pitching slots every day with high K, low-ratio RPs.

No matter how I draft, I usually have a pitcher-heavy roster by May. I thought I got enough positional flexibility early to load up on pitching options and create a good situation for streaming back-end SPs.

Let me know what you think!

2010 has brought me back to baseball card collecting for the fourth time. I started when I was a kid, collecting Topps from 1976-1985. Got back into it in the boom period of the early 90s, then sold the whole collection after I moved from New Jersey to Oregon. I collected a few more sets between 2003 and 2007.

When I heard about the Topps promotions this year, I found myself caught up in the nostalgia again. I also spent a month back in Jersey caring for my mother, so I kept myself entertained by building the 2010 set. I knew I was hooked again when I could not resist taking advantage of KMart's deep discounts on 2008 Upper Deck.

Now that I am back in Oregon I have organized everything that I've started this year and everything I left unfinished 3 years ago. I found the Baseball Card Forum two weeks ago and have already started filling holes in my sets via trade. I have always been a base set builder, but I'd really like to finish this year's insert sets as well. I have decided to complete a few insert sets from years past and use the rest as trade fodder.

My main interest in the Forum for now is to finish the Topps sets below. I'm working on a few other baseball sets, as well as Topps 2007 Basketball and Football, but will organize that later. Eventually, I will start building individual player collections for some of my favorite players, but I have no interest in becoming a supercollector or investor.

I also have a blog called Sounds Good that you should check out some time. So here's what I'm looking for (*incoming):
