General discussion on sports and assorted other matters.

  1. "The Ugliest Girl in Town", remade again

In show business, it's not uncommon for men to pose as women. It's a practice almost as old as time itself. However, it hasn't been tried in professional wrestling on a national stage. Until now.

At Wrestlemania 25 on April 5, Santino Marella (real name: Anthony Carelli) entered a women's battle royal posing as his "twin" sister, "Santina", and ended up winning the match. "Santina" has yet to lose, and the worst case scenario for most of us long-time ...

  2. Of agents and black clouds

You have to pity James "Bus" Cook. As a player agent, he's not as well known in football circles as a Leigh Steinberg or a Drew Rosenhaus, nor is he a publicity mark, like Rosenhaus or, if you're a baseball fan, Scott Boras.

However, Cook's most famous client, Brett Favre, supposedly, is talking about coming out of retirement again, this time to play for the Minnesota Vikings, bent on revenge against the Green Bay Packers, and the slipshod way they handled his departure ...

  3. When is a rivalry not?

The memory is still fresh in the minds of hockey fans in upstate New York one year later.

During the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, the Albany River Rats and Philadelphia Phantoms engaged in a dramatic 7-game series, which Philadelphia won 4-3. Little did anyone know at the time that this would actually be a portent of things to come.

Earlier this season, it was announced that the Phantoms' long-time home, the Wachovia Spectrum, formerly home to the parent Flyers of the ...

  4. A goal not reached

I don't watch "Dancing With the Stars". In fact, I'm not that big on reality shows overmuch. When it was announced that former NY Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor would be the latest NFL player to compete on the ABC series, I wondered if he would, like old rivals Emmitt Smith & Jerry Rice, among others, be there at the end. Last night, the answer was no.

Taylor, the original "LT" to NFL fans, was voted off the dance floor, leaving six contestants left, including ...

  5. A few things to talk about

Hockey fans in my area are a little divided during the 1st round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It has nothing to do with the Rangers vs. Washington, though. It's New Jersey vs. Carolina that might be the more attractive matchup, with the Devils leading 2-1 after Sunday.

That's because up until a couple of years ago, the Devils were the parent club of the AHL's Albany River Rats, and some of the current Devils, like Zach Parise, for example, starred for the Rats before being called ...
