  1. Since when do coaches teach bad behavior? (Or: What hath LaVar Ball wrought?)

LaVar "Big Mouth" Ball has done it again. Worse, another coach is following his lead.

Back home in his native California, Ball was hit with a technical in a game over the weekend, and, predictably, pulled his team off the court, forfeiting a game they were leading by a mere six points. This was the 3rd time this summer that Ball has taken this ridiculous tack. He's accusing the opponents of cheating, though no evidence has been presented to corroborate these claims. Instead, ...

  2. The white flag flies in Flushing

The Mets have been plagued by injuries throughout this season, such that they've already conceded the NL East to Washington, and the wild card is almost certainly a pipe dream at this point, too. As the trade deadline approached, GM Sandy Alderson made a trio of deals, none of which send signals of hope to Met Nation.

July 27: Lucas Duda is dealt to Tampa Bay for a minor league pitcher. Duda gets to go back to New York anyway, since the Rays are playing the Yankees, and shows the ...

  3. Presenting the world's worst stage parent

Who in their right mind would spend up to $500 for a pair of basketball shoes?

That's the real question when it comes to stage parent and huckster LaVar Ball, whose Big Baller Brand is asking $500 for a pair of shoes that will bear his son Lonzo's name. A limited edition model goes for twice as much or better. It's easy to see that the elder Ball wants the 15 minutes of fame he never got as an athlete, but he's embarrassing his son at every turn.

    Take for example a ...

  4. In the end, he's another party boy gone wrong

Not even Bruce Wayne parties well into the night.

While the New York press dubbed Mets pitcher Matt Harvey, "The Dark Knight", as in baseball's answer to Batman, Harvey has gotten himself in hot water with the team on a number of occasions, most recently May 6 when he didn't show up at Citi Field and was subsequently scratched from his start the next day vs. Miami. First, he claimed it was a migraine headache, but then it got out in the wash, so to speak, that he'd partied ...

  5. The torch has been passed

It's an even-numbered year, but the San Francisco Giants won't be in the World Series.

The Giants' October magic ran out on them shortly after midnight (ET) as the NL Central champion Chicago Cubs punched their ticket to their 2nd straight NLCS, eliminating the Giants in 4 games. Joe Maddon's club now awaits the winner of Thursday's NLDS finale between Washington & Los Angeles, as the Dodgers forced a game 5 with a 6-5 win earlier Tuesday.

The Cubs knew what they ...
