Hello fellow collectors...or buyers, sellers and traders,
Clearly im Historic1985 on a few trade sites and I'm new to all this "online" trading, buying and selling of strictly baseball cards. I've been able to collect baseball cards since I was old enough to...16 years to be exact. so im not an old timer with wisetales of opening wax packs of 50's and 60's Topps just for the gum and using the 52' Mantle to make my bike sound like a motorcycle.
I come from the times of wax packs of early 90's topps and the thin foil wrappers of upper deck where, at the time, it was incredible to get a card with an engraved "silver or gold" signature of some no name player only to find out 16 years later its still worth 40 cents.
But one Christmas morning a looooong time ago my dad introduced me to REAL baseball cards. I unwrapped a bubble mailer full of "vintage" Topps baseball cards. I remember the first thing I said when I laid my eyes on that one card. It had a yellow background with some dominican looking guys face in the circle. I said, "who's Bob Clemente?"
That 15 to 20 card lot/christmas present consisted of 1959's of Yogi Berra, Hank Aaron, Roger Maris, Duke Snider and many more that I wish I could remember. All in all it was almost $1000 BV worth of cards. And being the stupid arrogant teenager I was back then....I sold them all....for basically nothing.
10 years later....lesson lived, lesson learned. I still sell cards. But thanks to the internet, I know, that I can always relive those amazing past Christmas mornings again and again.
These days I appreciate what baseball cards have taught me, and what joy and excitement it is to have the access to the great history of baseball and its historic memorabilia.
thanks for reading, im going to start blogging more and more...not so much for the reader, but for me, and if you feel the same way I do then lets hear what you got.
thanks again
