What is Frozen Heroes ?

Rate this Entry
I have received a lot of inquiries through many venues that we use asking what Frozen Heroes is. I thought I would take this opportunity while I am laid up to explain what it is we do

Frozen Heroes Sportscards & Memorabilia is a family run business that has been around since 1977. It is a business strictly run on a fun basis and not for profit. We dance to our own tune and do whatever we can for the good of the hobby and our collector public who come to see us. We are not driven but the almighty buck and refuse to deal with people who are. Nobody at Frozen Heroes takes any sort of income from this business and it is subsidized by my officiating income.

While we recently became 'Upper Deck Certified Diamond Dealers' out of necessity we have ties to no one. Yes we do support certain suppliers and distributors who have been around for many years and have treated us very well. This allows us to get sales support, promotional stuff and some other important hobby related things for our collectors.

We sell on a variety of fronts in addition to our retail store but in the end the bottom line is being able to provide a safe place for our collectors to come and do their collecting. There are no fears of being ripped off, laughed at or taken advantage of and we try to help educate collectors on the hobby and what it can be. We try to locate items for our collectors who are relatively new (or naive) to the hobby and are afraid of being taken advantage of.

The bottom line for us is the end of the year (usually around Dec. 10th to 15th) when we get to distribute items for charity. After paying our bills we take whatever is leftover from the year and give it to various kids charities. This past year saw our best effort ever as we gave 26 new toys, over 700 cards and over $750 to the kids. This really means a lot to me as it is something I truly believe in and started doing over twenty-five years ago.

This is the Frozen Heroes story. It is a labour of love of the hobby and the desire to help keep it going for the right reasons. If you ever have cards or things you wish to donate please let us know as we have a long list of very deserving kids. Our thanks to Justin P for his donation of over 7,000 cards and Mike V for his donation of many sets and cards. My very personal thanks to Andy Andreoff of the Oshawa Generals for his kindness and support that helped put smiles on a few kids faces. I am truly humbled by your support of this great hobby and the collectors and kids who enjoy it
