Atlanta Thrashers

The Atlanta Thrashers earned their 13th win of the season last night against the visiting Vancouver Canucks. The win improves the Thrashers record to 13-21 on the season, with 31 total points. This also gave them the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference.

The first period was full of action, with a fight after only :04 in the game. Crabb (ATL) scored only his 3rd goal of the season at 9:00, the second shorthanded goal for the Thrashers, during the Vancouver power play.
Then, only a few moments later, Henrik Sedin (VAN) tied the game at 1-1 with his 6th goal of the season during the Vancouver power play. This ended the scoring for the remainder of the 1st period.

The second period began much like the first ended, with another H. Sedin (VAN) goal at 7:14, giving him his 7th of the season. Later in the period, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 13th goal of the season, tieing the game once again at 2-2.

The third period began well for the home crowd with a V. Kozlov (ATL) goal at 3:46 giving him his 16th of the season, and bumping the Thrashers to a 3-2 lead. Eight minutes later, D. Sedin (VAN) scored his 19th goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. There was no more scoring in the game, which put it into a 4-4 overtime period.

Overtime held no scoring for either team, which moved it into a shootout.

The shootout proceeded as Vancouver's second skater scoring on ATL goaltender Kari Lehtonen, followed closely by a goal my the home team Thrashers. Neither of the third skaters scored, putting the game into sudden death. Eric Christensen was the next skater for ATL, scoring and making the next shot decisive for Vancouver. The Canucks next skater came in and sailed a backhand shot high and wide of the goal, giving the Thrashers the shootout win and 2 points.
