Not even Bruce Wayne parties well into the night.

While the New York press dubbed Mets pitcher Matt Harvey, "The Dark Knight", as in baseball's answer to Batman, Harvey has gotten himself in hot water with the team on a number of occasions, most recently May 6 when he didn't show up at Citi Field and was subsequently scratched from his start the next day vs. Miami. First, he claimed it was a migraine headache, but then it got out in the wash, so to speak, that he'd partied into the wee small ones on May 5-6. An online article offered that Harvey was drowning his sorrows after finding out that his prospective girlfriend, model Adriana Lima, had gone to a lavish gala with her ex, New England Patriots star Julian Edelman, as her date a week earlier.

After all this time you'd think Harvey, or even his con artist-agent, Scott "20 Mule Team" Boras, would smarten up to the fact that the tabloid press in New York thrives on scandal. Shoot, the President of the United States, one Donald J. Trump, the biggest spoiled brat in America, would school Harvey on that. Every move a New York athlete makes is more scrutinized than anywhere else in the country, save maybe for Los Angeles. Johnny Rivers could probably write a song about that.

Digression aside, it is for the sake of the Mets as well as himself that Matt Harvey, man & boy, has to rein in his vices and concentrate on getting the Mets back to the post-season for a team record third consecutive season. The Citi Field injury curse has reared its ugly head anew this season, and the last thing the Mets want is for Harvey to end up going down again, this time for the count. The Mets of the 80's partied excessively, yes, and it ultimately led to their downfall, despite two post-season appearances in three years, when it could've and should've been more. Two of those Mets, Ron Darling & Keith Hernandez, are two of the Mets' TV announcers today, and could give Harvey some cautionary tales off the air about their experiences, and how to avoid making the mistakes their teammates (i.e. Dwight Gooden) made.

Not even Bruce Wayne parties well into the night. He has more important things to do. So does Matt Harvey, and so the party needs to be put aside until, oh, I don't know, November?
