Sex toys at a WNBA game? What is going on here?

Rate this Entry
Over the course of the last week, fans have tossed "sex toys" onto the court at various WNBA games. One fan was arrested in Atlanta, but there have been copycats.

It begs to ask, just what possesses these people to do something this irresponsible? It ain't a joke. There were incidents in Brooklyn & Los Angeles on August 5, the latter during a nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network, which shares WNBA broadcast rights with Ion & ESPN/ABC. Even though it's not empty bottles or plastic cups, like you'd see at outdoor venues or in a WWE event, it's still a safety hazard for players, coaches, officials, and fans alike.

Now, I realize that a good chunk of the players & coaches are LGTBQ. Could that be the reason? I wish I had real answers, but as of now, there's no rational reason for any of this. You didn't see any of this during the just concluded pro softball season. Why pick on the WNBA?

For now, we may never know.

That's just sick. If you have a problem with someone's sexual preferance then you don't have to be around them... don't go to the game, turn the channel when Sports Center covers WNBA... these are just insecure bullies that have to pick on someone to make them feel better about themselves. I'm sure it crossed their mind that the players and coaches are probably not going to retaliate there and then, so it's almost a free pass. Not only is it sick and immanture, but I'm willing to bet there are more children at WNBA games than almost any other major sporting event. At the age that they are, they probably know nothing about the "devices" thrown and will either ask their parents repeatedly or mull it over in their mind, wondering what those are and what they're for... that's a memory that probably won't go away. If I were a parent and someone did that near me while my child was watching I'd have to open a can or two on them! I don't watch WNBA, don't follow it a bit, but I really hope they squash this quick.

It's since gotten out that a group of crypto-currency geeks are behind these stunts, just to get attention for a coin with a sex toy on it, IIRC. Pathetic is a better word I'd use here.
