"The Reason Set Collecting is Better than Player Collecting."
I have some time right now so I think I will post another entry.
In the late 1990's, card collecting went through a drastic change. Many cool innovations occurred such as jersey cards, autos, parrallels, and inserts. While this made collecting more interesting, it had a major side effect. No one could have all of a player's cards anymore. It shifted focus away from the classic collection, a set.
I collect sets, because it is a goal. The enjoyment of getting one card closer is a good experience. I do not recommend it for people without patience. It takes time, but in the end is rewarding. I can not understand why people player collect exclusively.
Although I do have side PC players, they are not my focus. Player collecting is a never ending journey. Each year star players get 100's of new cards. It would be eternally frustrating to me if I focused on players. I would never be able to have all of the cards, so why do it?
I would like other people's thoughts if you would like to comment. Which is better? Set collecting or player collecting?
