Jack Hughes hit the golden goal for the United States in a sensational overtime 2-1 victory against Canada to clinch gold at the Winter Olympics in Italy.

Hughes, who appeared lose teeth from an incident in the third quarter, scored 1:41 into overtime to spark pandemonium in Milan and all across the United States. It is the country's first gold in men's hockey since the 'Miracle on Ice' in 1980 and 46 years to the day since that win over the Soviet Union.

As Donald Trump took to Truth Social to praise the team for winning gold, an emotional Hughes said seconds after his goal: 'This is all about our country right now. I love the USA. I'm so proud to be American today. I love my country, I love my teammates.

'That's American hockey right there. That's a great Canadian team but this means so much. We are such a team. The USA brotherhood in this team is so strong, so much support from ex-players. I cannot believe this. It could have gone either way tonight.'

Hughes will go down in history as the man who won it but the USA would have lost this game if it wasn't for an extraordinary performance by goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who saved 41 of the 42 shots fired at him.

'He was our best player tonight by a mile,' Hughes said, and there won't be anyone who disagrees. 'Unbelievable game. Just a ballsy, gutsy win.'

Hughes, who is rumored to be dating Canadian pop star Tate McRae, also paid a gnarly price for his medal. He lost nearly all of a front tooth after getting struck in the face in the third quarter and blood was still coming from his mouth during his post-game celebrations.

Penn State men's hockey star Gavin McKenna, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, has been charged with felony assault stemming from a bar fight over the weekend.

Court records obtained by the Daily Mail reveal McKenna has been charged with first-degree felony 'aggravated assault - attempts to cause SBI [serious bodily injury] or causes injury with extreme indifference.'

He has also been charged with misdemeanor simple assault, summary 'harassment - subject other to physical contact', and summary 'disorderly conduct engage in fighting.'

If found guilty, McKenna could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the felony assault charge alone. Combined with the misdemeanor simple assault charge, he could be sentenced to 22 years in prison.

The Daily Mail has contacted Penn State athletics for comment on this matter.

McKenna was at the bar Doggie's Pub in downtown State College with friends following an outdoor game against Michigan State, according to student news website Onward State.

The website reports that McKenna allegedly assaulted an unidentified individual, giving them a broken jaw.

The incident which led to McKenna throwing a punch has not been officially confirmed.

However, multiple reports indicate that the Penn State hockey team was in a private room at the bar when a person unrelated to the team began verbally harassing a member of McKenna's family.

The person who was punched has not yet been identified publicly. McKenna is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.

The 18-year-old native of Whitehorse, Yukon has long been pegged as the top overall prospect for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft despite a slow start to his time in 'Happy Valley'.
