    Authenticity without grading?

I recently purchased this card at an estate sale. When I researched the card prior to purchase, the coloring looked a little off so I asked the seller about it. He either knew nothing about cards or acted as such. He offered to lower the price to $10, so I took it. I’m not interested in the costly process of grading, but hope someone can give me some ideas on its authenticity, if that is even possible. Thanks in advance.

Really from looking the images its hard to tell if it’s a reprint or worse - altered

1957 I believe was the first year of the standard 2.5x3.5 baseball card, so I’d do a quick measure of this

However - for $10, it’s worth the risk.

Well, that’s a start. It does measure exactly 2.5 by 3.5. Thanks! I don’t imagine I’ll have much luck in this venture, but figure it can’t hurt.

Quality then is not like today... but there are way to see if there are rip marks with a magnify glass

here is an older article from SCD but a lot of this should still be accurate

Thanks for that. With the info in that article I confirmed it is in fact fake. Thanks for the help.

Fake, or altered? Fake would probably have little or no value. Altered would still have value (albeit, significantly less than an unaltered card).
