NHL player scores goal by hitting puck off of referee's groin into the net
It didn't count officially as a goal but it should have been one.

I didn't know that rule. I figured with officials being considered "in play", that would count.

I didn't know that rule existed either. I mean, it should count in theory since the puck is in play just like any other play, but I guess not. So weird!

My problem with this not counting is that it went off the goalie before going in. I mean, if this didn't count, then any goal following the puck touching a ref shouldn't count either, even if it was then shot by another player. Know what I mean?

Yeah, the rule they flashed on the screen toward the end of the video says "...as a result of being deflected directly into the net off an official..."
