    Getting cards graded, need a reference; Ty Cobb- Cy Young

    Newbie here
    I am looking for a few references to get some older card grades...and if applicable
    appraised

    My grandfather collected Piedmont tobacco cards....

    My estimation was that we had about 600 cards
    They were split, we ended up with 250-300 or so cards

    Notables are Ty Cobb and Cy Young;

    I do have a "Wagner" but it doesn't have H or Honus
    I wish I knew what the other cards were; my Aunt sold them and she has since passed.

    Are there a few businesses that you would recommend?
    I would imagine they can be sent for grading and sealed up??
    Thanks
    Not looking to sell them at this time

    If you are able to post scans that would help with identification and estimated "book" value. As far as grading, I am PSA guy. There is actually a group submission to them from this site every month. PSA is the way yo go if you ever do end up selling. PSA will get you the highest return, most bang for your buck. For pre-war vintage, pre-1945 cards like you have, some collectors like to go with a company called SGC. If they are legit original cards, MANY vintage cards are reprinted and counterfeited, you Cobb and Young could be worth substantial money, especially if they grade in any decent condition!

    My first recommendation would be PSA. Second choice would be PSA. I know it's just my opinion, but there really is no question about it. If they are original, which they seem to be judging by the story, then you've got some high dollar cards. They're probably not something you want to learn on the fly on how to pack them, send them, pay for them....etc. I would suggest calling their customer service and have them walk you through it. I don't know where you live but if near the NY/Philly area then driving there wouldn't be a terrible idea once you've spoken to someone. Great story! post a few pics, we'd love to see them.

    You got some good advice here from the other guys. If you were just going to keep them and not sell them I like GMA Grading. They do a good job but they probably will not get you much of a premium.

    I would definitely get the notables graded. Maybe even check the lesser known guys on eBay first because some of the guys you or me don't know could still be very good signers. Also if you have any in really great condition. Sometimes condition is more important than who the player is.
