Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski announces retirement

Rob Gronkowski is walking away from football.

The New England Patriots tight end announced on Instagram on Sunday that he is retiring from the NFL after nine seasons.

"It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far. I will be retiring from the game of football today," Gronkowski wrote. "I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010. My life experiences over the last 9 years have been amazing both on and off the field. The people I have meet, the relationships I have built, the championships I have been apart of, I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity I have been giving and learning the great values of life that I can apply to mine.

I think he made the right decision to retire. There is rumors that he may go to WWE! He will find something to do!

3 time Super Bowl champ, one of the best 9 year TE careers ever, and all before turning 30. Will he be bored, who knows, but I am sure he has a few things lined up for himself.

Good for him. I think it was the right thing to do at the right time. Don't worry about him. Boredom will not be a problem for him. Will be missed and another great player that Brady has watched come and go. Unreal.

Will certainly miss watching him play, but I think this is best for him. His prime is clearly behind him, and he's still very young...go live your life big fella!

Wouldn't surprise me if he came back during season.

I remember some sports writer's speculating that the best use for him would be to save him purely for the red zone to try and keep him healthy. His complete game is such that it's irresistible using anywhere and everywhere. Can't wait to see him either hit the center ring and start Gronk Slamming some fools or play the young version of Dolph Lungren on the big screen.
