While I agree that this is pointless and a waste of money out of curiousity did you all think the same about the President Bush refunds? I think they were $300-$600 if my memory serves

I did, yes. I thought the stimulus refunds were pointless and a detriment to the economy. Did I hate getting $1500? No...but I thought spending billions of dollars that most people put in savings or used to pay bills was a terrible idea from the beginning.

but you want taxes cut right? i mean, weren't these considered tax cuts...only thing was they only want to families who made less than $150,000 or individuals who made less than $75,000

Not hardly the same. Tax cuts are long term, these were one-night stands. Plus, tax cuts are supposed to bring reductions in spending as well (I know, they haven't done that lately...but they are supposed to), which means less government, which is exactly what I'm for. Just as tax cuts don't work if you don't cut spending with it, these stimulus checks don't work...you're just handing out money you don't have.

well, i agree they were one night stands, but they were still tax cuts...but again, i agree that it didn't reduce government spending either, which is what i'm for too. but the $1500 was nice, paid for a family trip

I dont think anybody was going to ***** about getting free money. I didnt have a problem with it. The difference is that it went to people who paid taxes and had jobs. people that effect and were effected by the economy. This is a handout to people who shouldnt be effected by the economy. I cant understand how this could be called stimulus. Its giving money to people on top of the money that is allready given to them. I guess thats cool, but dont call it stimulus.

It's just an offset from inevitably-rising Medicare costs. Who said anything about a stimulus?

"Congress approved $250 emergency payments as part of the $787 billion economic recovery act that lawmakers passed in February."
