Grading the Islanders: Rob Schremp Hockey
Our Islanders report cards here are a summer-long quest to beat back the heat and reconsider the performances of the prior season. I throw up some information (your interpretation of "throw up" may vary), you mull it over and counter-argue as needed; we all vote a "grade" for that player based on our preseason expectations...
...Which makes Rob Schremp Hockey a fun case. As you'll recall, he was a waiver pickup at the end of preseason. My read at the time -- which was well-debated in comments -- was that it was a "no-brainer" gamble for Snow but also one that was no more than a 50/50 shot of turning up roses. Low risk, high reward, no harm if it didn't work out.

Far from it. He was given chances to prove himself in camp and was called up and he never stuck. He is a bust, a terrible defensive liability, and not even that great in the offensive zone. He has great hands but he's not a pure goalscorer and he's not effective enough to dangle everyone and score. Doubt he lasts 5 years in the league

Andy (I apologize in advance for the following rant lol) where are you getting this from? The ONLY thing I MIGHT agree with is that in the past he has been a defensive liability. That being said, he's also played for two of the THE worst teams in the entire league (I believe the Springfield Falcons had possibly 2-3 players with a positive +/- rating in 08-09 if I'm not mistaken not to mention having only a -4 for the freaking Islanders who were AWFUL defensively as a team last year) shows me that if you're just looking at his +/- strictly, you aren't getting a true gauge of his defensive ability.
Next, he pretty much NEVER got a shot in Edmonton. If you look at his NHL stats for his WHOPPING 6 game career (spread over 3, yeah 3 seasons) he got 3 points. All 3 of those points came during a 4 game stint in 08-09....3 points in 4 games in one season...that sounds just plain dreadful Andy. And 6 games total over 3 years...that's REALLY giving him a fair shot.
And your comments about his goal-scoring ability prove to me that you know nothing about Schremp at all. Schremp isn't a goal scorer other than in the shootout really. He is an extremely creative PLAYMAKER. Not even ONCE in his entire career be it juniors, AHL, or NHL, did he EVER have more goals than assists. His highest career goal total? He is a playmaker Andy. Not a scorer.
Come back at me when you have some FACTS Andy. Not just your opinion.
