I'm just posting this one to have a little fun. You feel for the player, because he's not going to ever turn away that kind of contract offer. But with it comes standards and expectations. Scotty Gomez never had a hope in Hades of living up to the 7-year, $51.5M deal he signed with the Rangers. Remember, the cap back then was much lower, so a $7.357M hit was a lot. It was a huge percentage compared to today. It was an albatross from Day One, an untradeable contract. Except he was traded to Montreal. And boy did the suffering ever begin and endure. Scott Gomez once went a full year-plus without scoring a goal. That's not like right now, where guys were off for several months due to the pandemic. No, Scotty played a full year's worth of games without scoring. I saw him score one in the preseason but that doesn't count on the stats sheets. That's also where he signed this card:
So that's my fun story and pretend submission.

Thanks for the tag and I’m excited for this latest edition of the show and tell contest!
To start things off, after some soul searching and staring at a section of my pc that I generally try to avoid, lol, I decided to go with Pat Falloon. I had such high hopes...

Let's throw this guy in the mix.
Drafted 3 years after Roberto Luongo was drafted, who was later traded to Florida as Dipietro was expected to have a better future ahead of him. Dipietro was supposed to be the next best goalie in the NHL after dominating the 2000 World Juniors and NCAA for Boston University.
He did play 318 games, at times looked like an average starting goalie. Expectations continued to grow and in 2006 the Islanders signed him to a massive 15-year contract worth $67.5 million. Through his own struggles, his team's struggles, and series of injuries, he just didn't live up to the hype of a first overall pick. He last played in 2012-13 before getting bought out in the 2013 offseason. He will continue to get paid by the Islanders until the end of the 2028-29 season.
There are a lot of busts in the history of the NHL, but researching this guy, he was perhaps one of the most expensive busts.
