Good luck Dale. You cant teach guys work ethic and heart. You'll get the "spark" for a few games, but until you get rid of one (or both) of the lazy Russians, your doomed to yet another 1st round exit. No heart=no grit=no win in todays NHL.

In my opinion, in order for Dale to be successful he just needs the players play an offensive game just like when Boudreau took over the first time around. Boudreau introduced a defensive approach and accountability this season which obviously doesn't work in Washington. If Dale does the latter, then the coaching change won't matter as the players will tune him out just the same in a few months. This firing just shows how much pull Ovy's got with upper management, and it looks to me that the players are on Ovy's side. So, just let Ovy lead the team and see where it goes. It's not like he's a terrible player - just having a terrible season.

It will lead to another early playoff exit. Ovi is a great player, but an AWFUL captain. Watch Ovi in the playoffs. He seems to say "Forget everyone else, I'll do it all myself". And he makes some great plays. But in the meantime, he's not letting players like Mike Green, John Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom play their game. And unlike a good captain, he can't seem to get everyone around him to step their game up. As long as he wears the "C", the Caps will go nowhere.
