    2005-06 product: why even bother?

So I was checking out some of the prices on dacardworld.com, more out of curiosity than anything else...and I saw that 2005-06 products are STILL through the roof, obviously due to the Crosby/Ovechkin factor.

I decided a long time ago that I simply wouldn't bother with product from that year, but I at least expected a little bend, what with any redemption cards from that year virtually worthless. Silly on my part to expect retailers to adjust their prices accordingly, I suppose.

Would anyone here even bother with mid- to high-end product from that year, even if you had money to burn?

Simple, don't. I mean some prices are so high you can pic up a Crosby RC or Ovie RC for the price of the box. Like Series 1. I'd rather pick up a Crosby YG than spend the same price for the CHANCE to get one.

Low end 05-06 wax is a rip off. High end 05-06 wax is extremely likely to be tampered with. Singles in general are a better use of hobby dollars, but for 05-06 the difference between singles and wax is extreme.

no exclusives in 05/06 just HG...and most of the crosby HG have been pulled and graded...if not all...there's only 10 of them

how do you know what "accordingly" is for retailers? they raise the prices because the product is still going off the shelves. the prices can stay at those levels provided competitors aren't lowering their prices and yes, if the products are still selling. no one bought 05-06 with the redemptions in mind so the fact that they're expired doesn't factor as much into the pricing of the product.

fact remains, and you said it, the crosby/ovechkin factor is the dominant factor in 05-06 pricing and all the rookies for those 2 were live and can still be pack pulled. i know a few people who still buy random cases of 05-06 product every now and then just to see if they can hit the crosby or ovechkin.

    Low-end 05/06 is actually a great deal.

buy a Crosby RC from the Cup for $10k or buy 3 cases for the chance to hit a crosby and ovechkin
