Flyers sign Zherdev
I really like this move, depending on cost. I cant find the financial terms yet though.

I thought the flyers had no more cap space.

Rumors going around is that the deal is worth 4 million per season, and they're going to waive Gagne. Providing he gets claimed, that would (net) free up 1.5 million in cap room.

Dumb move.....Even if Zherdev score 25 goals it will be a dumb move , as he's not made to play physical like Flyers Hockey and he's a soft/selfish player in my opinion.
They already have Briere , Giroux , Carter , Richards , Gagne , Hartnell , Vanriemsdyk , Leino
They have already a scary offense and if I was Homlgren or the coach , i would give more ice time to Giroux and Van Riemsdyk . They are both great prospects and Giroux's last playoffs were just the beginning for him.
Of course they have to move a forward now and between Carter and Gagne , it's obvious who will go if you check salary , age , size.Last edited by Brodeur_fan666; 07-09-2010 at 05:13 PM.

Gagne is definitely gone now. i hope DL makes the waiver claim. i know he's paid a little more than he's worth right now, but to get him and not have to give up anything would be a coup.

I think that is all Dean Lombardi is waiting for is for him to go on waivers. But who would get to go ahead of the Kings? If i am a potential contender and I have the Cap space for 1 year for Gagne I take this chance every time.

NYI and Nashville could be other possibilities for Gagne - in a sense, Gagne can choose where he wants to go by waiving his NTC. that way he can control where he'd go and where he wouldn't go based on the teams that could afford him.
say, if Gagne would rather go to L.A. than NYI or Nashville, he could tell PHI management that he would waive his NTC to go to L.A. but not the other teams. then PHI can approach L.A. about a deal for a late round pick.

Not saying he will go on waivers, just that if no team is interested in trading for him right now, the Flyers may have no choice but to put him on waivers as they are over the cap.
NHL teams aren't going to trade for someone they can get for Free when the cap hit is that high.
Gagne has one year left on his deal and then he is an UFA. If he has a great non-injury plagued season. He will get good money in 2011/12 by a number of teams. The Flyers are going to want draft picks and prospects back in order to trade him, and they have no Cap space to take back any salary.
Waivers is starting to look like The Flyers only viable option.

Becuase he's got a NTC, and won't waive it. They can still put him on waivers, and any team could claim him (but then would also have to honour the NTC).
I'm guessing Zherdev got 4 million becuase that how much he wanted in salary, to come back to North America.
The swap - Zherdev in, Gagne out - saves the Flyers 1.5 million in cap space.
This is all just speculation that I've read, obviously it hasn't happened. If it's true though.... I guess it means the GM thinks that Zherdev + 1.5 million in extra Cap Space is better for the team than Gagne is.
