New to boards...questions
Greetings all.
I've been awol from collecting trading since about 96/97 and came across a large stash of stuff that I want to sell at my upcoming moving sale (or here), but have a few questions.
#1: Book values: Where is the best place to get accurate/current book values on cards? I grabbed a Tuff Stuff so I wouldn't have to buy four Beckett price guides but see now that they leave out a lot of sets and special inserts (probably to keep it from being 1" thick). Is the online Beckett guide any different from the newstand?
#2: 95-96 Basketball. I have a lot of insert & die-cut RCs (Garnett, Stackhouse, etc) this period from Collect-a-Card, Pacific, and Press Pass but find that those aren't in the guide...are those in Beckett?
#3: 95-96 Baseball Pacific die-cut crown cards. I have a lot of these as well, but again, not in the guide.
Is all this stuff worthless?

Hi,
You can always go to www.beckett.com and sign up for free and use their free online price guide.
Most of the cards you probably have inserts and stuff never really go up or down in value so the publishers take the sets out to make room for newer sets.
If you want the best way to look up those cards (and the only way to Pacific and Collect a Book) you need to go to a bookstore and find their collectibles section.
There you should find books that are huge that list every card ever made. They are very heavy and cost around $20.
Or if you still cannot find any information on something make a post about the card and our members will try their best to help you.Selling All My Cards Here------>Hidden Content

Beckett.com is the way to go.
You can price single cards for free.
It is time consuming but free.
You have to sign up for the online price guide.
If you happen to have any Ivan rodriguez or Mark Teixeira cards let me know.
Welcome to the board.

Welcome to the forums big guy and I hope you enjoy your stay. Collecting is just like riding a bike... you never forget how to but will fall a few times when starting back up. Best of luck to you!

Beckett.com is great if you pay their $3.50/month fee. Otherwise, you end up looking up each card at a time, very time consuming
However, if you have a list of cards, take that list to Barnes and Noble, grab all the Becketts (they carry every sport), and then you can sit down in a chair, have a Starbucks frappuccino, and price all your cards.

Very nice analogy about riding a bike and collecting...I just got back in after almost an 8 year layoff from it, and it's just like old times for me! I agree, spend a few dollars on the Becketts for whatever sport you have, it's well worth it. Though, I never knew what the difference was if you paid for the online guide, when there is a free one. I guess card by card lookup is the reason. Anyway, welcome!

Welcome to the forum vandelay87! :D
Hope you enjoy the site!
I agree with most of what has been said before me here but I would like to add that I tend to consider ebay a true market for pricing cards.
It takes a little time and patience but I like to check closing auction prices for items I'm looking to price.
