FYI to all, guess I should have been more clear...I meant that it would be interesting to see him with them if he was healthy and was on a hot streak. I know he isn't a first liner right now.
As far as the signing of the summer...think about it. If he has a good season and gets 30 points, you can't get 10 points out of an AHL call up for $600,000. If he stays healthy and plays to his potenial, it would be the best value signing of the summer.

Isn't a first liner now? He was never a first liner. Not for a single day in his career.

If he plays how he did in the 2006 Finals, it will be.

He won't. The 2006 Playoffs were a flukey good time for Fernando - and he's never going to duplicate the run he went on.

I'll point this out for anyone who hasn't really heard much about Fernando since the 2006 playoffs (becuase most of these posts make it obvious you havn't followed much of his career before or after).

He is not healthy. He will not be healthy. He suffers from colitis (which reaks havoc on his digestive system). This isn't something that will go away, it's only something he can deal with.

Considering the Doctors told him, 3 years ago, that he'd never play in the NHL again..... the fact that he has is pretty remarkable. When he's healthy enough to play, he's still a decent PK guy, but that's about it.

I wish him nothing but luck..... but he's going to need a lot of luck to play much more than half the season.

Is he a bad pickup? No, I don't think so. But ask yourself this - Why would the Edmonton Oilers, who finsihed 30th place last year, let a guy walk.... for slightly more than the league minimum...... if they thought he was even kinda capable of still being an effective player? The answer should be obvious: They wouldn't.

the tough thing is with his sickness, even if you sign him you have to sign another player or prepared to put someone in his spot as Pisani is only going to be healthy enough to play about half the games

Decent value there. If Pisani can keep his guts together, then the Hawks will enjoy his work ethic. The kid tries real hard.

Yeah - I mean, don't get me wrong here. I think it was a good signing for the Hawks. You will be hard pressed to find a better player than Pisani at that price.

Just don't expect him to play more than 40-50 games, don't expect him to chip in with more than 15 or 20 points.... but expect hard work, and great "shut down" kind of work when he is in the lineup.

As a Hawks fan I would be happy with that. The Hawks might have signed him so that the young players see first hand what kind of dedication (heart and soul) is needed to play in the NHL.

And I would suspect you're right. I'm sure the Hawks know exactly what they're getting. And for 500k.... while it's not even close to 'signing of the year' it's money well spent.
