    "New" Orioles/Capitals fan

I guess I'm not really "new" because I first joined SCF way back in 2003 but then college/dating/social life got in the way and I thought I was too cool to keep collecting. Or maybe more accurate, my girlfriend at the time wanted me to be too cool to keep collecting.

Anyways I'm engaged now (different girl) and am lucky enough to have a job that gives me a lot of free time, so I've recently gotten back into the collecting fold. What piqued my interest again was when my friends and I randomly decided to go on a hunt to pull the infamous 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken card (five boxes yielded a total of three uncorrected "face" cards).

Mostly I've been seeking out Nick Markakis cards even though I doubt it's smart from an investment standpoint, but he's my favorite player so who cares? Plus someone's actually got to collect and not just be a prospector, otherwise the cards have no value to anyone.

I grew up in Maryland but now I live in Manhattan which is a trading card wasteland. I've found one card store but packs of Topps Heritage run $6, Allen & Ginter $7 and Bowman (not Chrome) $12, which is outrageous until you consider that a box of cereal costs $7 in this town.

I'm a huge Orioles, Capitals and University of Maryland fan and mostly what I'm interested in are Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters, Brian Matusz, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Michal Neuvirth, Semyon Varlamov and John Carlson cards, and I have a ridiculously huge collection of Expos Vladimir Guerrero cards that I wouldn't mind expanding.

I think that pretty much sums it up for me. Glad to be back!
