It's a bit like I am talking to myself in this thread anymore, but since I grabbed an all-time great yesterday figured I'd share.
Joe Montana was doing a free event at Mohegan Sun Casino near Scranton. Past events have gone very well there for me, getting Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, Thurman Thomas and others on pretty nice promo 8x10s. So I decided to make the ~2 hour drive up to my hometown Scranton to make it happen.
Based on prior experience I got there about an hour before the wrist bands were distributed, which in the past would have been plenty of time. I get there and there are already ~300 in line for a reported ~350 wrist bands.
We counted our spot in line and estimated it around 300 or so. A few minutes later we counted again and it was like 350. People were cutting. No good.
In the commotion, I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I did some "creative linesmanship" to get up with some buddies further up the line. I ended up getting a wristband. Many were turned away.
Montana was not very nice. I had heard horror stories about him. He was signing photos in the worst possible spot right over the casino logo where it was barely visible. I asked him to sign in a better spot when I got up front and he gave me a long staredown. But he did it. I also got the handshake pic with.
Crazy madhouse event. Sucks that it was so dog eat dog, but I guess that's life in the big city. This could have been avoided with the casino doing a better job with distribution, etc. I also apparently was on the local news in the crowd.
Great to add an all-time great!Last edited by cyberer; 05-23-2017 at 08:43 PM.

I always get excited when an email pops up from a reply to this thread. Nice addition to the collection as usual!

I always enjoy your graphs. Usually some story is attached to it lol.
I've gotten Montana twice at two different events. The first time triumphsports (out of business now) ran a fantasy football contest in which I won $500 in free autographs for my $25 entry. I was in 1st but one person knocked me out. The grand price was an autograph from each player (like 50 of them), ugh. I was a semi broke college kid, but splurged to buy a NFL football. Got in line and he didn't even look up and he could have put more effort into the signing.
The second time I just happen to be standing at the right place as someone sold me a flat for half the price. Bought an 8x10 and same thing, barely looked up to acknowledge anyone.I collect vintage in all sports and rookies. However, I do love any Red Sox, Bears, Penguins or Celtics that I need for PC! Need 1959 Topps Baseball cards for a set (ending stages). My cards come from smoke free environment, so please be upfront if your cards are not. Also if your cards are creased or bent, be honest about it.

Yeah it was definitely a bummer that he wasn't nicer, but still a great addition. Reading through the comments section at the casino facebook page, a lot of people were unhappy with the results of the event. So I guess I was lucky!
Glad you guys are still reading. I'm not sure when I will get out graphing next, maybe some baseball soon.

Great stuff as usual. My brother thought he could snag Montana when he was filming a commercial for Papa John's a couple years back, but he said Montana was very aloof. Congratulations!
I agree, this forum has become a little more quiet, but I love seeing stuff from the guys that have been around... Keep posting! I'll keep watching!

Been collecting for a while would love to be a part of this
So I thought I would introduce myself. I live in Philly and am in my late 20's. I didn't realize there were so many collectors in the area. My username is a little ironic, as I'm not a huge fan of any of the Philly teams, so I'm always trying to get the visiting teams players. I was actually at a lot of the events people posted on here so I thought I would share. I also do a lot of TTM requests, so I would love to hear more about success/failures there as well, and which players are best to try and get.
During the NFL Draft I had the chance to get a ton of players/autographs.
The day before the draft I got Leonard Fournette to sign a football at an under armour event. It was supposed to be photos only but fortunately he signed for everyone, so I got a football signed.

Right after that event I got Marshon Lattimore who was doing an event at City Hall with Verizon. The event wasn't advertised well, so there were only about 20 people that were there when the event started. He was only signing verizon cards, but I taped some pictures to it to make it look cooler. This is an extra one that is open for trade if anyone is interested.

During the actual draft festivities, I was able to get Donovan McNabb (the line took forever and he was only signing cards), Greg Olsen, and Le'veon Bell. I wasn't originally going to get Bell, but the line moved so fast I was able to get him. I actually was able to get two so this is also for trade if anyone is interested. He was only signing cards so I did the same thing as the Lattimore and put some pictures on it.

To cap off the weekend, I went to a Rite Aid event for Carson Wentz. Also the crowd was huge, the line moved fairly quickly and I had no trouble getting his auto (I was there about an hour early).

For the people on here in the Philly area I would love to check out some events and let each other know when different athletes are signing. As I mentioned I also do a bit of TTM so if you know of people who are good to reach out to let me know. Hope you enjoyed the post. I'll start regularly posting when I get people.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses, sorry I've been busy with work and not responding. Welcome to the site, phillysports. I just turned 30 so I'm roughly your age and into some of the same stuff. There's a pretty solid facebook group Philly Ink Signings that was started by (I think) some of the other originals that used to be on here with me- there's actually an old thread on here Philly Ink that I think the group grew out of.
I'm jealous of your fournette, lattimore, and mcnabb successes, wasn't able to go to those (had work). I did get that Wentz though, have 2 wentzes now. He's an incredibly tough graph, so good work.
