Application for Baseball Memorabilia Super Collector

    Jason -

I'm guessing you were expecting to hear from me on this one as many discussions as we have had over the years on memorabilia...

I own OVER 25 UNIQUE Nolan Ryan AUTOGRAPHED items.

    3rd Requirement- Miscellaneous Memorabilia:

I have PLENTY of this too, but it does NOT make up the bulk of my collection.

    Items worth noting include:

    • Vintage Hartland Baseball Figures

    • 1937 Pasadena Community College Yearbook - Jackie Robinson

    • 1951 Rawlings Baseball Flannel Sample Book -Mantle's Rookie Year

    • 1920's Home Run brand Cigarette Pack -Still Sealed

    4th Requirement- No Cards:

Although NOT a requirement, and definately NOT the primary focus of my collecting, I do have lots of cards - mostly SETS of certified autos and game used.

    5th Requirement- Proof:

Check out my PHOTOBUCKET for proof.
    http://smg.photobucket.com/home/xpress34/allalbums

The BASEMENT Album alone should tell you all you need to know.
    http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ss34/Basement/

    6th Requirement- Post Count:

Current Post Count is: 2,249 (as of THIS post!)

7th Requirement - A Little Information on Your Collection:

Let's see... I've been collecting something or another for most of my life. Started with coins and stamps and 1st day covers as a kid. Then came HotWheels and Comic Books. Comic Books turned into Sports Cards and one day in the mid 80's in Dallas, TX a friend turned me onto a GU 1972 Texas Rangers Flannel (wish I still had it!) and I was hooked! Stayed doing cards, but definately got more into memorabilia.

By 1991 I had a fairly decent collection - not as large as now and not as many AU or GU items, but TWO I definately wish I had back:

Frankie Frisch GU Kren's Special Bat

Ivan Rodriguez GU jersey (#55) from his 1st call-up with the Rangers

In 1994 that collection was liquidated due to a nasty divorce.

After I got back on my feet again, I got back into collecting only this time I concentrated more on GU and AU rather than JUST memorabilia (Gloves, Bats, Balls, Hats). As my collection grows, it evolves. Something I had to have last year, may now be expendable for something I must have this year. That said, I am about to sell off my Larry Walker and Todd Helton stuff if anyone is interested!

Anyway, in late 2001 (after the September 11th tragedy) I was hired by Niketown Denver as their new Loss Prevention agent. Part of my job included hanging with athletes when they came in to make sure no one messed with them. It was the best part of the job - but also the worst because I got to see some guys in their real light... not being an @$$ because someone wanted an auto, but jut being that way because of who they were (or thought they were)... that again influenced my collecting and I started paying attention to how players treated fans. If they became 'too big for their britches', then I declared them too crappy for my collection and moved their stuff.

Today, I collect various Rockies players as my 'modern' focus along with Nolan Ryan, Josh Hamilton and Matt Holliday as my main three guys.

I also have a healthy Negro League AUTO collection (various mediums) as well as HOF and VINTAGE Autos.

If anyone is EVER in the North Denver area of Colorado, look me up and come see the 'museum'. I love to show it off!!!

    Thanks for considering my collection!

    All the best -

    Smitty

P.S. - My collection also includes about 100 various books - ALL on baseball!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

That's also a big part of collecting to me is to be able to share it and show it to others.

7th Requirement - A Little Information on Your Collection:

I have been collecting cards since I was young. I have turned my attention to memorabilla more as an adult because I can afford it now. I collect hockey mostly, but I do also enjoy football and baseball stuff as well. It is a great hobby that I still do with my father, going to shows and signings. Now that I have a new born son, hopefully he will enjoy the hobby and start a collection of his own. Thanks for taking my collection into consideration, Brian
